Are TRD parts worth anything?

I'm buying a new 2015 Double Cab Long Bed with the typical convenience package AND nav. It is way more common to find the TRD Sport with navigation than it is the SR5. Price difference, all else being equal, is around $1k.

I have short term plans to run Icon suspension, OME leaf springs, 4.56 gears with ARB lockers, 255/85/16s on different wheels, eventually aluminum front bumper and skids etc. Basically I will be ditching the wheels/tires, shocks, leaf springs, third members and everything.

Since the TRD sport with Nav is way more common, is it worth having my choice of colors and a quicker buy? Will the TRD skid plate and shocks sell for anything with near zero miles? Yeah I know I will have atrac (who cares when I have lockers?), a fake hood scoop and body colored grill, mirrors and doors.

My last rig was a 2012 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4 door, I put $30k worth of aftermarket parts and replaced everything that would make it a rubicon anyway. I planned on an SR5 Tacoma but the price difference isn't as huge as I thought. Still I don't want to blow an extra grand if I don't have to.

Any useful feedback? And no I don't want an aftermarket navigation unit. I really prefer not to give anyone a reason to pull parts out of my dash.

    Thanks in advance!

You won't have atrac in the sport model, only off road gets that. Seats are different (better) in the TRD models vs the sr5

Totaled but still alive! Frame 2.0, Fog lights anytime, Seatbelt reminder delete, Secondary air filter delete, LED bed lights, Running boards, 2017 Rims, Ultra gauge, Cup holder/consol/glove compartment lights, Interior LED conversion, Blue Sea aux. fuse panel, fuse panel mounting plate by Yotamac, ProEFX heated towing mirrors, LED engine bay lights, Redline Quicklift Elite hood struts, Wet Okole Heated Seat Covers,m, Rear bumper 2.0, Decal free visors, Washable cabin air filter, Overhead consol auto dimming override switch, BulletProof Fabricating Skid plate, 2lo module.
Mine is a TRD Sport and SR5!
Also I would suggest the factory towing package.

Won't need atrac with front and rear lockers.

All TRD models are also sr5, nothing special there. Although they dropped the sr5 designation sometime around the 2012 facelift

I would suggest driving the TRD vs sr5 and see which seats you like better.

Agreed, just pointing out the fact that sport models do not/have not come with atrac

Ok I didn't realize the sport didn't even have a trac. Interesting but no matter in the long run. Basically body colored parts, fake hood scoop, shocks and cheap skid, ugly wheels and different seats. I guess I should have sat in the Trd sport to compare. I have back and neck injuries and generally everywhere I sit is painful so it may not matter anyway.
People seem to be after the fake scoop so I guess if I really cared to, I could sell the shocks and skid, swap the hood plus cash and be out the same amount roughly if it came to it. $1000 isn't much of a difference anyway, I just prefer not to pay extra again for something I'll be taking off right away.

I don't want to get into the navigation discussion much. For about $500 extra I'll take the factory integrated nav any day. I don't like extra clutter, especially stuck on the windshield. I've had portables and use my phone but I always prefer the factory nav because it's always there, out of the way and available.

The truck will have tow package either way, appreciate the recommendation though.

    Thanks for the input.

My Rubicon was several thousand more than the sport JK model when I bought it. Then like an idiot I promptly dropped about 30k in aftermarket parts. Replaced basically everything below the frame except the rear axle housing. The only rubicon part I kept was the 4:1 low range.
Now I'm hoping to build something more suited to longer distance travel, camping with the kid, more reliable, lower maintenance and lower build cost. I like working on rigs but it seems like that's all I did with the jeep.

WOW. What did you do to the Jeep that was worth $30k just in parts?

    I have a 2014 SR5 non-TRD.

I got the nav unit since they gave me a deal on it as it was on the lot (vs ordering one from the factory). But that being said I love the nav for getting around traffic in the city and navigating through neighborhoods around traffic jams and accidents. Actually using it for turn by turn directions is a pain in the ass and I rarely use it for that.

The HD Traffic is really nice too. I leave it zoomed out so I can see the lower half of the Denver Metro area and can see where accidents are reported or traffic is slow and adjust my route accordingly. The weather map is nice too if I'm trying to find a place that isn't raining or to predict road conditions as I'm on a road trip and I see a huge ice or snow storm 200 miles down the interstate.

    YMMV.

It was definitely worth the extra money to me personally.

OP, it is definitely worth trying both the SR5 and the TRD seats before making a choice. I couldn't get comfortable in a SR5, so I had to go with TRD.

If you're looking for an integrated head unit, a member on here is selling a dash "kit" that replaces the stock screen with an iPad mini, thus allowing you to use Google maps or whatever nav unit you prefer.

That jeep looks pretty sick although I'm not a jeep guy. Although I LOVED my FJ40. Wish I still had it. I'll bet that hardtop cost a good chunk of change. Like others have said with what you have in mind really what you need to do is spend some time driving both. The seats are the biggest difference. I'm one of the rare people out there that actually likes the SR5 seats better and I have owned both. But I only put about 30k miles on the TRD. Over 150k on SR5 seats though (between 2 trucks) and I do like them better.

Let's back up here, the guy who's sweating $1k of a price difference is the same guy who sunk $30K into a Jeep?

    just sayin...

I'm in the process of making the same mods to my 2012 TRD Sport. I'm glad that I have the interior accouterments of the Sport UPGRADE package and I personally like and use my Entune with Nav, JBL a lot. The color matched body parts were also what I wanted and the turn signals in the mirrors are kind of nice too.

There wasn't any interest in my take-off suspension parts so I've kept them around if I ever want to return my rig back to stock.

    I hope that helps :)

Just because we have the money to spend, doesn't mean we want to. Let's keep it informative, shall we?

OP, I'd go with the TRD Sport. If you're smart and don't mind shipping, you can probably recoup that grand out of the TRD parts. Someone, somewhere is willing to pay top dollar for brand new TRD stuff.

I too have back problems...a couple of smashed up discs at L4-L5 and L5-S1, I find that the TRD seats in my truck are one of the few automotive seats that I can tolerate sitting in for any significant amount of time.
    YMMV

The addition of Wet Okole seat covers also improved the overall comfort, durability and usability as well.
