Looking good Lucky, that manual ADD actuator you made is pretty impressive. Honestly, I was having a few doubts about your project until I saw that, now I'm confident you'll have no trouble completing the job. Keep up the good work!

 

looks like you are doing a great job. Just seems like a lot of work. I'm a Pre Runner owner and at times wish I had a 4x4. But that's a lot, id just suck it up and trade it in on a used 4x4.

I bought all the parts for the conversion, dropped it off at a shop and picked up my new 4x4 7 days later all for $4500

 

I got everything bolted up. Did some test fitting to make sure my cable-shifted FJ case was going to clear - it does - and proceeded to stab this sombich. I didnt get it and ran out of time for the day. I'll give it another go tomorrow. The tranny jack I rented has decent control for tilt and twist, but its worn out and doesnt roll very smoothly.

now that's what im talking about. that's the way I want to go, buy everything and have someone do it. Im really thinking of doing it, just finished paying my truck off.

 

I've enjoyed doing it myself. Its taking longer, yes, but I'm doing it on my terms, timeline, etc...

 

Successfully stabbed and bolted up. Still have to torque the flywheel/tc bolts, put starter back on and weld up my crossmember.
Although I did some test fitting for the cable mechanism for the x-fer case, once I was completely bolted up, I didnt have the clearance I thought I was going to have. Ended up doing some trimming and had to make a hole in the tunnel. Would have been better off with traditional twin-sticks bent and re-routed like everyone else has done, but my cables are still going to work.

 

Very awesome job so far. I have one question for you. Does the electronics all work still like say if you shift into 4L or 2L does the transmission go into limp mode since the computer is for a 2wd or does all that get changed or re flashed. I've been trying to convince the wife to let me solid axle my prerunner and run the inchworm adapter and just use a fj case with d44 from a jeep wagoner so i can keep my rear. The main thing im worried about is the computer deal and things going wrong that way.

 

My ECU does not know there is a transfer case behind the tranny. I kept the shift indicators on the transfer case, but they are not plugged in to anything. I intend to splice in eventually so I get the appropriate dash indicators for 4-lo and 4-hi, and I will be doing a custom indicator for 2-lo, but there will be no ECU control of any of the 4x4 components.

 

So i take it that there is no need to do anything with the computer everything will work correctly even if 4lo getting on it the trans wont want to shift or shift to soon? would think it would go into limp mode. I just wanna make sure this is a pretty much a easy transfer case install.

 

I dont know about others, but when I am in a 4Lo situation, I manually select the gear I want to be in. Note: Its been 15 years since I've owned a 4x4 with an Auto trans... I seem to recall that when in 4-Lo, if you let the ECU do all the shifting - i.e., putting it in D, the shifts are a little harsh and unpredictable.

 

Before I continue reading the entire thread (looks to be a good one), what I need to know is where is 'NB, TX' that you're catching rainbows?
