I have a sneaking suspicion that I got some bad/watered down gasoline. Ever since I filled up (at a station I've never used before) the truck has been making a new, annoying clicking noise. Almost like the sound of a baseball card flapping against the spokes of bicycle in motion, but not as loud. It happens whenever I give it gas, but not during idle. Any ideas? 2000 PreRunner, 2.7L.

Throw a can of seafoam in it and see what it does.

If you think you have some punky fuel that has water in it, get yourself some Sta-Bil Marine and put it in the tank. The stuff will displace the water and is safe to use in your truck even though its advertised for marine use. Or get anything else that will displace the water.

Heet in the red or yellow bottles will fix it. If you have easy access to methanol race gas, put about a quart of that in with a full tank. You need something that will mix with the water to make it combustible.

Thanks for the ideas. I'm going to fill up with 93 as soon as I hit half a tank or so and see if that helps. If not, I'll give these suggestions a shot.

If the water amount is enough it will hardly run and will ruin your injectors....I got bad gas in my HHR a few years ago....I noticed a ruff idle within a mile or two.....Put a can of seafoam in at a parts store and then drove back to the gas station.....They put another can of gas treatment in the tank and I drove it home....Barely made it home and had the car towed to the dealership the next day.....They found water in the gas and believe it are not the station paid the repair bill.

Octane has nothing to do with water in the gas, it makes the gas harder to burn by raising the flash point. If you're already having trouble burning the gas if anything it may make the problem worse.
