At the very least looks like I may need to mod the handle. At least it's full tang, just need to put a better edge on it.

You unbolt the hinge from the tailgate then put the pvc pipe in place. After the two hinge halves and pvc are put back together you have to hold the tailgate in place and put the bolts back in. I don't have a reason to take the tailgate off so this works perfect for me and looks like a factory piece.

I carry a Fiskars brush axe for a machete. I love it, no flex in the blade and can also be used to chop

Not pretty but it seems solid. Please excuse my crudeness, I only have basic hand tools so I took this route. $3 handle and 2 bolts and nuts. Definite improvement over the plastic. Now where to put this ugly thing?

    Stock.

    $3 handle.

    Sheath still fits.

Mine isn't pretty but solid. Better than this.

I always have a snow shovel and snowbroom in my truck. It's easier to get to than the stuff in the garage. I got tired of needing them but opening the tailgate to see them all the way up at the cab. Not a pain unless you have a tonneau like me. I put a bungee cord across the back and bought a couple of the supersized carabiners. Now when I need them, they are easily within reach!
