Both front wheel bearings started to go on my 2010 Tacoma with less than 45K miles. I barely squeezed it under 60K/5years powertrain warranty, with 1 month to spare.

I was under impression that wheel bearings should last way longer than 45K miles. It's not like I drive my truck on rough roads often. How long wheel bearings lasted on your Tacoma?

Yes, no hassle to replace them. No complains about local Toyota dealer.

I have 62,000 miles on my 08. I've never had an issue with them. I think how long they last is gonna be different for everyone, because we all use our trucks for different things and in different environments. For example, if you drive in sand and hub-deep mud a lot, those things eat up seals, which allows the sand and mud to get to the bearings next go round. Would you give us an idea of how you use your truck? Do you have wheel spacers or heavy tires? I'm curious now.

My question is, most of them fail early as you can see by the many threads on here. So are they just putting the same defective bearings right back in them?

The truck is all stock. Mostly highways. I got into deep mud maybe once a couple of years ago, I don't think it made it all the way to the hubs though. And I drive it on, what could be considered off-road or very rough/rocky forest road up/down a mountain a few times a year. Nothing that I would consider heavy use for this truck.

It depends. I have a 1996 Ford Ranger with over 400,000 and I have never touched the wheel bearings. There are several things that can cause them to go out early. One is from the factory they are not greased properly. The seals can also fail because of improper installation or design.

The there is operator punishment that can cause it. Running through high water or on a lot of mud and dirt can cause early seal failure and bearing problems. Oversized wheels and tires can also stress the bearings and cause them to fail. Any off road activities take their toll on these vehicles.

The right front bearing on my Prerunner went out at 110K. I replaced the rigth rear at 112k due to inner seal failure for the third time ( first two before 40 K under warranty ). The left rear went out right at 60K due to inner seal failure and was replaced under warranty. No off roading, no heavy hauling or towing until about 90K when I got the TT.

I've never changed a rear but I've done fronts on all 3 second gens I've owned. Just replaced one on my current truck last weekend and they had been done before at about 90k. 150k on it now. My first one I bought new and had to do both sides before 80k. I actually used a $26 ebay bearing on mine this time. It'll be interesting to see how long it lasts. They aren't hard to change so I figured I would experiment.

Drivers side went at 62k mi. Passenger side and drivers side again at 230k mi. No rhyme nor reason to how long they will last. Some mud lots of snow and lots of logging/ dirt road driving.
