I put bedsides on last weekend so I had to remove the bed bolts and slide the bed around. Gave her the bolts and just told her you need to grind off the top so the washer can slide off.

Thanks doording. Mhhh weaker huh....darn I'd sure love to get rid of those torx bolts.

Also, i completed the mod tonight. I spray painted the metal sleeve for the torx bolt.

Those dodge d rings were an excellent recommendation!

I used the dodge rings from post #306. Looks OEM you can hardly tell they are different from the ones that came on the truck. I just did 2 on the front bolts. Mine squished a little when I torqued the bolt but I can still move them by hand just a little tight which doesn't bother me since they won't rattle.

Does anyone know what hardware is used here for the steel bed tie downs? I think these come standard starting in 2013 and want to install them in my 2011 DCSB and use them for securing light cargo. Thanks

Any good locking nuts and bolts will probably work. Probably want some type of backing plate on them too

I got serious about cargo control and took my d-rings out. One of the bed bolts was corroded from water. I cleaned up the bolt and applied a light coat of grease. I also sealed the bolt and bed with a roofing sealant.

Here is what I did recently:

Not enough tie downs in the back of the truck. So I fixed that.

    Crom,

Could you provide a link to the track that you used for tiedowns? I'm looking at doing something similar, but need the dimensions of the track to see if it will fit between the molded "rails" in the Tacoma bed.

    thank you,
    -J

Depends on the grade. Bolts are engineered for varying degrees of both tensile and shear strength. Sometimes a soft bolt is best. Sometimes a harder relatively more brittle fastener is best. One thing about most stainless bolt is they are generally more prone to galling than an equivalent carbon bolt.

I got it from "u.s. cargo control", if you order online or over the phone, prior to ordering, search out a coupon on the internets. :D I got 10% off my last batch order.

I'm in the process of putting in one more 42" piece along the rear edge of the truck bed. It was 48" but I cut down yesterday. Now it's perfect match to the truck bed mat. I got the holes drilled yesterday and will bolt it in this week.

Here are some more helpful illustrative photos of my install. One day I'll make a build thread, but for now I'll just photo bomb here. :D

I mounted them between the ribs of the truck bed and cut the rubber bed mat for access.

I know there is a joke in there, but I'm too dumb to get it. lol!

Thanks! Good to hear you say that about the color. I wanted something bright so I can see it, and ugly enough others may not want it. :D

Recently completed this mod using the Dodge D-rings. I chose the Dodge ones bc they are beefier than the others listed and match the OEM ones the best. Used the T55 socket and breaker bar to get the two bolts off then sanded the rings with a belt sander to be able to remove the washer. Once I removed the washer, I used a bench grinder to grind down part of the washers that was preventing it from laying flat. Even with part of the washer grinded down, there was more than enough left to not mess up the integrity or function of the washer. Afterwards, I simply put the washer back on and then the D-ring and then tightened it down real good. I didn't have a torque wrench so I just tightened them with the ratchet and then slid a breaker bar over the ratchet and tightened it about a quarter more turn. Pretty straight forward and simple. Very effective and useful mod!

For the tracks on bed floor, I used all stainless hardware, 3/4" Flat head machine screws, 1+1/4" fender washers and nylon lock nuts. Each 12" piece of track has (3) mounting holes. The 2" bits of track I got came with custom steel backing plates.

In this photo below, at the top you'll see a backing plate for a 2" piece of track (it has longer screws, too), in the bottom of the photo you can see a 12" piece of track. Also note the ribbed reinforcement of the truck bed. If you undertake this project, you'll need to contend with the pattern, and plan accordingly. :D For perfect alignment, I used a pair of magnets, one on top of truck bed and one below to precisely figure out my hole pattern, such that the ribs were not going to interfere with the bolt holes for the tracks.
