Yeah, I was the same. Didn't need those added bells and whistles. They drive the cost up as well. Just give me a good dash cam that captures good quality video.

As for an earlier question about pulling down the video, I'd just pull the SD card from the unit and slap it into my laptop to retrieve.

    This is what I want:
Simple, cost effective, just pull the SD card should I need it. The camera turns on when the truck is on and turns off when the truck is off.
So the question still begs…Whats a good option for the ol' dash cam?

andlours setup is very nice, and seems like THE best option so far; but I just got word from the wife we are expecting our second!!!!!!!!
I'm Super Excited... however, I'm now in the mindset of pinching more pennies.
I got an Icon stage 3 from her for Christmas and want sliders next; but the dash cam needs to go in before sliders due to the the traffic circle (no other option for alternate routes unless you're buying gas).

I have a GoPro hero 2. Only use it for "work" and the occasional snowboarding adventure…Anyone know how I could rig my gopro up for continuous recording and auto "on/off" with power from the truck? …Just trying to be frugal here.

The Mobius Dash Cam that andlours got can be had for under $100 from what I can see on Amazon.com. Same for the G1WH that I got. Those are both good options on the cheap. The mini 0803 looks to be just above the $100 price range and is also a good option with a very small footprint.

Also keep in mind that the camera can catch you driving like a fool as well so beware when the camera is rolling. Heh heh.

My G1WH arrived today. Popped in my 32GB Micro SD card, formatted it and then setup the camera options. The manual is indeed totally useless, the web is where the info is at. Took a while to figure out the menu navigation - heh heh. It's installed in the Tacoma now and will give it a spin over the next few days. Will report back to let you guys know how it fares.

Sure I can put some up this weekend and provide some feedback. So far so good. It's a "set it and forget it" setup now as it starts recording as soon as the truck starts and stops when I turn it off. I pulled down some video last night after driving around with it. Man those files get big. It was about 500MB/5minute 1080p .MOV file. That 32GB will be filled up soon. Good thing for the loop setting.

I'm hoping my G1WH can be powered simply by connecting a USB cable to a powered USB outlet I have. Hate this huge lighter adapter. Will test that tonight. Then I can use a long cable and tuck it all away nicely.

I wired a multiple 12 volt outlet bay under the dash to the fuse box to hide the big plugs from any accessories I plug in.
The camera turns on as soon as I start my truck.

Took some pics of my G1WH setup today... damn it was cold... more pics in my gallery but here are a few.

Not as sleek and low profile as the Mobius or mini 080x series, but still good. I disabled all the beeping too so it's totally silent.

Yeah. I'll look into some other options so that I can put it higher up on the windshield. But for now, it's all good.
