But if this is really it, the engine mechanics have some explaining to do. And some refunding to do too. And please don't defend them anyone, they charged us for this service that we are now going to pay for a second time.

EDIT: And I even made them truck cookies. Wow. And cinnamon rolls. And asked them about replacing all of our injectors with different ones. Not cool. And paid them to put in a FPR that we probably didn't need. And dealt with being without my truck for weeks beyond when I should have gotten it back. And was left to figure this out on our own once they received our payment. Our very large payment. Not going to curse, not going to flip on anyone on here........but surely even those of you that typically defend all mechanics can see that any reasonable person would be ticked off at them at this point.

EDIT 2: New mechanic is having us pick up injectors directly from the place that's doing them, because he's not making any money off of it. Wow. Just truly amazing to me how some people can be so kind and honest while others can be so dishonest and careless in their work.

EDIT 3: I suppose this is the moment that I should finally be celebrating, and yet I'm just numb now. The emotional rollercoaster of this whole thing start to finish has taken WAY more of a toll on me than I could have ever imagined. At the moment, I'm still sticking by what I said earlier in the thread though - I think and hope and pray that they do great work when it comes to engines, and I suppose we'll find out eventually whether that's true. But it's pretty clear that their diagnostic work is mediocre at best, and just plain terrible in many regards. So assuming our engine actually lasts, I'd do it all over again, except I'd have all of the diagnostics done elsewhere from the start.

Yep, they gonna have 'splaining to do. Still need to wait until new injectors are installed and truck runs normal. Crossing my fingers.

Exactly. Which is how it came up with our new mechanic that he'd have us pick them up. I asked him if we could get a copy of the flow results to help us take this up with them, and he said, yep, they'll have all that for ya, go ahead and pick them up and bring 'em to me. But agree 100%, not even going there, not even allowing myself to be excited yet til I start that thing quite a few times at the 30 min mark with no issue.

He asked his guy if any of them looked rebuilt to him, and his guy (who's been doing this specific work for many, many years and has a great reputation) said nope.

Save your receipts, and request to talk in a back office with the owner of that shop, once this is said and done.

I hope those 2 injectors were leaking so bad, they flooded a third of the engine.

    wow,

you showed great joy in this whole experience and repeatedly said you loved learning all this stuff.

it was in that background I tried (maybe too strongly) to signal how important I think it is in your best interest the advice I was giving.

sorry you took it only as "I told you so gloating" and sorry I cared enough to try my best to help someone who I thought of as a friend avoid having more problems in the future.

if you ever took the time to calmly reread what I said without attributing attitude to them you might see it only as the expression of a strong viewpoint.

these may not be the 4 hole upgrade version but they are brand new and the ones that fit your engine http://www.ebay.com/itm/Toyota-Lexus-4Runner-Camry-T100-Tacoma-Fuel-Injector-2320962030-2325062030-Set-6/291328263184?_trksid=p2054897.c100204.m3164&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140407115239%26meid%3Df9e2673cf45742e1b8692f171149adfc%26pid%3D100204%26rk%3D23%26rkt%3D30%26sd%3D291328183001

all I ever wanted to do was help, even with this being my last post here

god bless and best of luck

    Thanks for the link Keakar.

I am not in any sort of state to handle a tense discussion of who said or did what right now, so I'm not going to comment on any of that for now.

But I did want to thank you for sharing that link, it was really nice of you to take the time to find it for me.

EDIT: And thank you for the best of luck wishes too......

Yep, for sure. Sad thing is though, the owner of the shop is who we communicated with every single time throughout, start to finish. And the owner is the one who handled all aspects of fuel system work.

Considering back when we were thinking it was the IAC valve, and an employee there quoted me a price on a new one, then the next day when I called back that same employee said "the owner didn't like the price I quoted you, it will actually be $10 more than what I said yesterday" - me thinks it will NOT be a fun, smooth, easy process to sort out this issue. Hmm, let's see, we just paid you $5850, you gave us our truck back with an undiagnosed fuel issue (that turns out to be something you said you'd addressed), and now you're worried about getting your $10 profit on a part? That you already quoted a lower price on? Wow.

Things have gone so up and down in this thread that I think I may have missed something. Jen, I thought you had mentioned at one point that the MAF sensor had been replaced. Was I wrong in this?

No, we didn't replace it. We pulled it off when we had it home for a bit, during a typical hard start time, and it started right up, and also gave us a CEL, which is what we were hoping for - to give us some sign that the ECU was at least sort of doing its job.

Only other thing with the MAF was that the engine guys had said they'd cleaned it. We thought about cleaning it again ourselves, but never did.

Do you guys think this link could really be true, that a set of 6 brand new Denso injectors is being sold for $190? Not meaning to question you Keakar, it's just hard to believe because the dealer wants $215 for just one of the exact same injectors. Amazon wanted $150 for one of the same injectors. I realize the dealer mark up is always insane, but that would be like insanely insane. So I'm wondering if this link is just for one of them maybe? But it says set of 6.........

I suspect it's too late to stop the injector guy now anyway, so we'd likely owe him $200 for the 2 reman'd ones he's giving us and the 4 of ours that he's rebuilding, but even with that, I'd still consider buying this set if they are truly a brand new set of 6 Densos. To me, one set of reman'd injectors is just as risky as another (like our own), but brand new is a whole different ballgame. An awesome never think about it again ballgame.

    Me too!

Do you guys think we should be concerned about damage to the new engine from these things leaking? I've read/heard some stuff about fuel leaking into the oil can blow the HG, and wreak other scary havoc on an engine. Which is the most messed up thing of all - unless they enjoy swapping engines again on their own dime (while it's under warranty), why wouldn't they be more concerned about addressing this issue correctly from the start????

We were told to change the oil at 500 miles - it has a special bearing oil right now. I wonder if we should change it sooner, I remember someone saying to change the oil ASAP if fuel is leaking under the hood, but pretty sure that wasn't for someone with a new engine/special bearing oil.

You are fine. The oil would have to be very diluted from gas to cause any worries. The best thing to do would be to drive it for several hours to heat up the oil, thus cooking off any gas that may be mixed with the oil.

Ok, good. He(owner) knows that you know whats going on and what should have been done. He bitches about anything, give him DocInjectors number and the man who did the work on your injectors(get his name). They at least owe you some Labor money I would think. There might be some between business friction there,,(remember the measuring contest?) so be ready for the poo slinging berating stuff. Have your hard facts lined up. But wait for now till it runs well.

Puddled the pistons with fuel?. You could get a righteous,,downright awesome, possibly really spendy, double flame fronted backfire and it would stink to the heavens, if it was really wet with fuel. A simple fuel rail leak at the knarled up threads if I remember right,,is all he found,,and the return line leak.

Oil should be good. Yank the dipstick and give it the sniff test if your worried. Heavy raw gas smell is what you,,,,don't want to smell and get several opinions on that.
