I dont know I like them. I would rather buy Toyota but after many years going to go a Ford route.
Looking at F150 and F250 just can't decide which one.
If I am going to full size I want something with 11 000 lb of towing capacity.
Tempted to wait for Aluminum body F150

I thought about a F250 for a very brief moment. If you do not need the carrying capacity then you are wasting money and fuel. In 35 years of truck ownership I have rarely needed to haul something that my F150 would not. Now if you are towing a large TT then that is different.

I am thinking ahead, I usually end up keeping cars for almost 10 years (9 years+) so I am thinking if its worth getting F250 because when I priced both for the configuration I like, the difference was negligible. .

Same here, no ecoppops and no 3.5 slow direct injection garbage ...:D
Waited to see 2016 and I am disappointed. Especially with the engine choice. So time to start shopping for something else.

Remember you came to a TOYOTA forum to ask TOYOTA owners if you should buy a FORD.

10yrs is a long time to keep a Ford. Around my parts I dont see many 10+yr old Ford trucks (which is a redflag) but I dont have a hard time seeing 10yr+ tacomas though.

At the end of the day the F150 is pretty nice, I would get one if I could only get past the reliability issues. And the ecoboost has yet to truly prove itself in a fullsize.

Oh I am not ditching my Tacoma, I will be handing it over to family for driving. I love that thing, as long as I get new frame from Toyota it stays. If not than sadly its going have to go.
If Toyota made V8 optional on 2016 and bump towing capacity to 8500 LB I would have went that route. Since they suck @ss have to go Ford route.

Yeah but 10 years ago 2Gen was better option. What are the options now?

    1. Get 2016 deal with 3.5 slo and its head gasket issues, spilling oil issues, carbon buildup and hope I get 1 MPG extra mileage ? Still no major improvement in Towing or payload.

    2. Get Tundra but with no locker, no mechanical LSD so now shell out money on new third retrofit it. All that for much more money than Ford and less Towing and payload capacity. (For the price of Turndra you can get nice F250.)

    3. Go Ford route and get pretty much all I want and just deal with some annoyances.
10 years ago it was easy. Needed a truck, Tacoma fit the bill so got one.

Lol. A midsized with a V8 and 8500 lbs of towint capacity. That sounds like a really good idea

Just buy a full sized. What you are looking for is the function of a fullsized truck.

    Why not?
Our 4.0 L can easily tow 6500lb. and truck handles well.
I see no reason V8 could not handle 8500 lb.

My neighbor has a very similar truck. Even down to the paint color, on Boggers.

As a driver of fords, I would say keep driving a Taco unless you need the towing capacity. Drove a 6.0 where the dealer wouldn't admit injectors were bad until 100k, then of course maintenance and repairs are pretty costly with $600 being a cheap repair. Then I drove a 2012 f150 fx4 with the 5.0. When it drove, it was great, but it spent quite a bit of time in the shop. Replaced starter at only 12k, then had a recurring grinding noise at startup/wouldn't even start and could never be replicated at the dealer. AC blower motor also went out at around 30k and finally got rid of it. I just got a 2015 F250 powerstroke, but am already realizing that it's too much and I just don't haul enough to justify it so I'm looking at getting in a 2015 taco by the end of the year. Long story short that has been stated, you'll get to know your mechanic real well with a ford.

My 2007 F-150 towed for years and hit 103k miles. Never saw a mechanic once. Plenty of 10 to 20 year old F-150's around. If you need a full size it is a great option and reliability is not a problem.

I do agree, i just had a bad apple with the f150. I guess it depends on your dealer, and my ford dealer is pretty bad to where I need to drive elsewhere. My dad has an 09 f350 with close to 200k and runs like a champ. All of the "Big 3" have good and bad at the end of the day. As for the OP, I'm not sure it would be wise to be the guinea pig for a new engine thought.
