Man that sucks. I just lost a zero tolerance knife at work. Thats always puts a hurtin on the wallet. Im thinking of getting a ft-8900r mobile since Yaesu has an $80 rebate which puts it around the cost of a dual band. Don't know if I will get in to hf, but buy once cry once right.

What do you want to do with it? What are you trying to accomplish with it?

It looks like a UHF female SO-239 connector on one side and a coax crimp on the other.

Why not just use a UHF bulkhead connector or something similar?

I need to order another one. This is a second hand unit. That connector came off the coax cable. So I need to replace it with another one. Also, need to order the right DIE to crimp the new ones on.

Odd that style connector is being used in a CB application...

Can you just replace the bulkhead connector to a PL-259 then just pick up a solderable PL-259.

IMO by the time you source connectors and a die set, you'll be throwing money away on and expensive connector that isn't neccessarily being used in the correct application.

What type is you coax cable?

No clue. unfortunately this is not my expertise.

The Die would not go unused. I would use it for the Antennae and video stuff I am doing.

The connector came off a firestick and fireplug to connect to a cobra 75 cb. I believe the smaller form factor connector was just to assist in the routing of the cable through the firewall.

I would do what Jake said. I would toss that thing, buy a solderable PL-259, cut the coax, solder that bad boy on, then thread on a UHF bulkhead connector and be done with it. Less than $10.00. You can watch a Youtube video on installing the PL-259. Really easy stuff!

I'm not stressing the work. Soldering is my thing. What site is recommended for the items? Might want to grab some extra connectors to help others with installs.

    Figured it out. Mini uhf

Repurposed / reused the connector. Just need the die now.

Found the 5 pin connectors. Need the 5 conductor sheilded sheathed wire. Like a foot.

Hope so. In essence it is just a jump cable for the 'recreational' CB. Just makes for a clean install/.

Looking to get back into things. I renewed my HAM license, have had it for over twenty years now! Considering a mobile unit to install in the truck, or a handheld that I could easily take along. About to scour this thread some more for some options, but if you want to chime in on a novice unit that could work great in or out of the truck, please feel free!

I'd like to get something that would also work when I volunteer at events, where our EMS and Security are using radios (not HAM). Also, obviously I need to find a local or online refresher course, since it's been ages.

I wired an antenna and amp into my car. I then got a Yaesu handheld with a stretchy mike, plugged it into the 12V, clipped the antenna cable, and was rocking and rolling. When I needed to get out of the car, I switched antennas and off I went. I even had a full charge!

Haven't turned that radio on in years. Battery probably doesn't work anymore - NiCad.

Not the best radio in the world, but they work...
