Thought I would show my rear end. I put a battery back there to power it. Not Ideal, but should be OK for medium pulls. It is recharged from the trailer harness. Removable, of course.

BTW, the rear locker was nice today in the very deep sugar sand. Maybe you can get stuck in that stuff, after all!

Very nice setup! If you wanted to keep the battery back there permanently you could bolt a box into the bed and run some thick-gauge cable to charge it from the alternator. Wire it up right and you could use it as a backup battery in the event that your primary one dies.

Rear-mounted winch = big win. For most of us, if we get stuck the easiest way out is from the direction we came.

Removable is also nice so your gear doesn't grow legs and walk off.

you mean like when you spend thousands of dollars souping up your truck for a baja race then IMMEDIATELY after you take it out of the shop you get it stuck face up on a big pile of dirt in the parking lot and you realize that your truck is not capable of driving through a parking lot much less a race through the desert. and you come to this epiphany while using a skyjack to pull your rig off the pile of dirt. and you think to yourself... "man, maybe instead of spending tens of thousands of dollars on beefing up my truck, i should have just spent a couple of grand on a winch for my truck and i wouldn't be in this situation..." something like that? :)

and then he finally just gives up and accepts his truck as a show piece and removes the driveshaft, but tries to hide that fact by covering that area with a bunch of steel? yeah, something like that.

I've been thinking about getting a winch.

Anybody know if one has ever been hidden in the factory front bumper? I'm getting rid of my bull bar for a light bar so the lower region of my factory bumper would be a great place to hide a winch. Out of site but available when I need it.

That and I figured it'd be in particularly poor taste to have the big finger on the screen for people at work. :D
