Lift question

I drive an 04 dc trd taco
Id eventually like to use an aal on teh rears and the 5100's in the front. Do I need to also invest in the differential drop to prevent excess wear to my cvs's?
I searched but found many different ideas not many specified to the 1st gens.
Any help would be appreciated.

 

so im guessing you have a 4x4?

 

How high are you planning on going? Anything over 3" and a diff drop would be recommended.

I would really like just a simple 2 or 2.5 inches

yes kinda...it all depends you should be ok but i doesnt hurt to do it anyway you know.

 

i have the diff drop and regret it!! its like a bulldozer blade in a hole, all bs aside. you know how you act with it and im just letting you know how it acts when you bury up. i takn mine off as soon as economy allows me to. plus i have 04 trd 4dr 4x4 and i play hard. TLC keeps everything alive.

 

I have the full Old Man Emu suspension setup, which gives me 2.5" over stock. I decided to not drop the differential just on the principal that it defeats the purpose of the lift in the first place. I have to tell you that my CVs are wearing more rapidly than I would like, but it's not an extreme issue. It's really up to you to make the call. They won't explode, but you're looking at definite maintenance down the road.

When I get the money I'll be going for the manual hubs to take care of the wear issue.

Spacers to sit on top of the strut assembly up front and shorter shackles on the rear.

What yall think?

 

If your going to do spacers at least get the toyotec lift, the eBay stuff is cheap, and spacers all ready aren’t ideal don’t add insult to injury

 

I put a set of Skyjacker 3" lift AAL's in mine and a set of Procomp 2" spacers in the front, did not do the diff drop. No problems at all. The angle of my cv's didn't change a whole lot. I will however be putting Bilstein 5100's up front in a couple months(afer Christmas).

I followed Chris4x4's advice, never did the drop, no vibrations, no change at all.

 

I guess I missed the story of a bad run in you had with using a diff drop?
Why do you recommend not using one?

I am running one currently but I would be more than happy to take it off and gain a little clearance if you can make some good arguments.

 

dont go that route...

on gen 1 tacos, top mount spacers like that have been known to put undue stress on lower ball joints... while pre load spacers ride a bit stiff, they don't impact suspension travel and are less likely to impact the lower ball joints...

 

5100 and AAL is the best for you IMO. And no on the diff drop.

 

I picked this up from a guy off of here. I installed it all my self in a night.
