I'll use multiple tanks I think... but I'm also planning on hitting up Lockhart Basin over night (40+mile trail) and White Rim (100+mile) but I'll also be getting there the 22nd

I got about 12mpg doing it last year. Did it on one tank, but carried 4 extra gallons.

lockhart is a great trip...i was thinking about doing that one again...did it in one day last time...loooooooong day

i think this time i'll just shoot up the chute and stop at the overlook, then head back down to check out chicken corners and head back...

up to the look out has some fun stuff...

above the chute, stopped at the lookout (where i would turn around this coming trip and head to chicken corners)
    LockhartPano5-edited_zps304c860f_38319f92f4f79568340afc44ddbbe554d6b344cf.jpg

past that point it was a lot of ledgey, slow wheeling...nothing hard, but rough enough to keep the speeds down...great scenery, but long and bumpy...

the plane crash is a cool area to explore before a high speed exit out of the area...

I'm toying with hitting up the White Rim on the weekend before, (camping if I can get a spot... looking into that tonight) Monday starting the Kokopelli, then heading straight to start Lockhart on Wed, camping in the middle, then back up to Area BFE to hit up the closer/shorter trails on Thursday for the rest of the time.

I think I filled up in MOAB a couple of times last year.
I don't know if it's all tacos, but mine seems to drink heavily at idle. way more so than other vehicles I've owned.
Between idling to air up tires and idling on the trail to keep the AC going, I got horrendous gas mileage last year.

Did you NEED to fill up? or just topping off to be safe?

i usually top off numerous times, but overall, if you're just hitting moab trails...maybe a full tank for 3-4 days wheeling...

but i usually need ice everyday, so while i'm getting ice, i top off my tank

Unless your bringing a u-haul good luck finding one close. When Ripcord busted his rear diff a couple years ago we had to go to Grand Junction to get a car hauler. Huge pain in the ass.

White Rim would be pretty sweet.

Sounds good... You heading out Friday night or Saturday AM from CO? I could give you a hand if ya want...

I appreciate the insight... I kinda figured it'd be a drive to find a Uhaul, knew it wouldn't be easy, but it'd be a hell of a lot worse if I didn't have the $ either. Figured I could bribe someone with some $$$ to drive me to a Uhaul and pay for the Uhaul and fuel to get me home... .

made me go look at fuelly....

Looks like I used about a tank and a half while I was there last year.
got ~10mpg there vs ~18 on the trip there and back.

Sure. Yeah Ripcord paid for my gas out and back but we spent 2ish hours calling everywhere we could and that is where we happened to find 1.
