Local dealer had 40k for a Canyon here. I would put my money on the new Limited's being damn close to that they already are 35-36k.

Been driving the 97 F150 daily since I bought it (Almost 2 weeks) Here is my mini comparison. This is not an apples to apples comparison. It is a comparison none the less.

    97 F150 long bed 4.2 Auto 189,000 miles Price $1800

+ Nice big bed to hold all kinds of shit
+ Feels rugged, V6 seems to have good power, smooth, quiet. Dare I say the Ford 4.2 is quieter than the tick tick tick of the 4.0L Tacoma.
+ Interesting to be sitting on a bench seat like I was in highschool.
+ Seems like a very good value if you need to haul something around.
+ feels dependable but not refined.
    + Solid brakes
    + 30 Gallon fuel tank

    - Handles like a truck
    - Not something I want to get in an accident with
    - Several squeeks and rattles
    - interior fit and finish is NOT as refined as the Toyota.
    - Overall dependability is NOT going to be as good as the Toyota.
    - little oil leak, nothing bad.

Overall pretty awesome if you need a truck to move shit around. No regrets. Gas mileage seems about the same as the Tacoma.

08 Tacoma ACOR auto 43,000 Sold $21,000, waiting on the equivalent 3G Tacoma.

+ Has amazing road holding/cornering ability. This truck handles awesome, I think people take the handling for granted, Its awesome. If you need to cover some ground in a truck on the asphalt this is it.
+ Brakes (4 piston calipers), motor and transmission are smooth/ torquey.
+ No squeeks or rattles, quiet interior.
+ Very refined interior compared to the FORD. Very nice design execution on almost every component. You get what you pay for with Toyota. As a mechanic and Engineer, I appreciate good Engineering, good use of materials in the vehicle I drive. Thats one reason I like Toyota.
    + good towing capacity.
+ I like that Toyota provides a locking diff option.
+ They are expensive to purchase but you get that back and more with the re-sale.

    - V6 4.0 could get better mileage.
    - Really no regrets, awesome truck.

When It comes time to purchase the 3G, I wish I could wait for a used one so I dont take that 4k hit off the dealer floor. I guess we will see how things pan out in 6 months.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
I have a 1997 7.3l Powerstroke as my second truck. It can tow anything and haul just about anything and I love everything about it, but I am glad it's not my daily driver. It shakes, rattles, bounces like a grain truck over every bump, costs over $100 to top off both tanks, and is hard to park in tight lots or spaces. Needless to say, it's parked most the time unless I need to haul something large or tow, I don't even bother towing with the Taco when I have this beast at my disposal. She's a trusty, tried and true old school 7.3l, best diesel ever put in a Ford truck. Would never own a newer Ford diesel at all.

    Sweet, a thread comparing a $2,000 truck to a $20,000 truck.

That bed looks humongous compared to the regular cab.

I would hope a vehicle that's 11 years newer would have fewer squeaks!

My '10 taco has squeaks coming from both doors, upper seat belt connections, and around gear shift boot. The cabin air fan has a ticking sound I can't get rid of, the clutch pedal and linkage squeaks and rattles like it's about to fall to the ground.

I keep the stereo volume high enough to tune it all out.

While my taco has many great qualities, and I plan to keep it for a while, I would never describe it as being "refined", or having good fit/finish, or any component at all in the interior being of above average quality.

Unless of course I'm comparing it to a nearly 2 decade old Ford commercial F150.;)

Don't know what to say - a taco handles like a damn ox cart. Your standards are too low. Have you ever driven a real performance vehicle?

It could be worse - I agree the taco has very little body roll when cornering, or front/rear squat then accelerating or braking, but that's because it has the suspension of an ox cart.

What truck would you consider to have good handling?

Don't say Nissan Frontier - it drives like an empty U-Haul.

I don't think I would say any truck handles well. That's not what trucks do.

There are some that have a much more civilized ride than others - softer, better handling over bumps & potholes, but that certainly does not include the taco.

If you count SUV's, then I'd say a BMW X3 or X5. My wife had a leased X5, which handled better than most any car on the road. Just amazing for such a big vehicle with a high center of gravity.

I don't know and it's just my opinion, but I think the new GM trucks handle pretty damn well. They are quiet and smooth. Better than my brother's new ram. My next truck will be a Sierra Denali with the 6.2L. I've been looking, but am buying a house first.

Traded my 11 on a whim for a new Sierra during GM Truck month and realized I made a horrible mistake, so that's why I'm in my 15 now. Otherwise I'd still be in my 11. We all make bad life decisions sometimes. I consider trading my taco for a Sierra one of those BAD decisions and of course suffered a bit $$$ wise on the trade in.
