    I would guess myself, that it is closest to the 2gr-fse which has d4s already, with the addition of the part time Atkinson cycle tech used in other lexus engines now..

    I would bet that it is not full time Atkinson cycle.

    I hope that Toyota continues their now tradition of offering a TRD blower, and if they do I would bet its at least 2-3 years before they release it.

    If you watch reviews comparing the Frontier/Colorado/Tacoma, many of them praise the Tacoma for feeling like it has more grunt low in the revs than the Colorado and Frontier. That comes, of course, after bashing how outdated it is.

    Whatever the new V6 has for specs, I hope it doesn't lose that quality. It'll be interesting to see a torque curve on it eventually.

    You are probably correct.

    Just like most other developments that tech has been used for awhile in top forms of racing, once the kinks and cost are brought down to a reasonable level it is only a matter of time before it is introduced to our junk.

    Agreed! I love the 4.0 old or not. I have high hopes for the latest and greatest, hopefully they haven't learned too much from the domestics in that department!

    I used 2L in my old yotas by leaving the hubs disengaged. It was handy back then.

    A true twin stick would be better.

    I have used 4L when backing a trailer was not possible with 2H in my 6spd, not great for the stuff that binds..

    I would happily settle for locking/free wheeling hubs which would also mean no more unitized wheel bearings!! win-win for all.

    "Pretty Much" is a keyword here. I could have missed when they said it was Miller cycle engine (like Mazda Millenia)
    Unless you saying Toyota does nto know what they build (which is possible too)

    Definitely, probably running in that mode any time that demand allows it to do so.. and hoping that it has full capability to decide which mode actively all the time. Which would hopefully mean that you don't actually feel or notice any difference aside from possibly a split second delay say if you mashed the skinny pedal and it was running in Atkinson for the computer and mechanical dohicky stuff to pick up on that, and transition to otto cycle for maximum potential.

    I bet towing or hauling a large load would see mpg close to now and hope that cruising empty is vastly improved.

    It sounds like a really ingenious idea to me, if its done right. If it was nissan making the claim I would be more weary as to whether or not it will pan out.

    Someone said Toyota is not bragging numbers yet because they aren't proud of it. I would bet they aren't bragging numbers yet because they tend to be pretty damn realistic and test them pretty well before release unlike GM or FORD or Chrysler.. look at the American trucks. The ratings they claim change every year and they are not based on the same standards for everyone. . Towing is an example toyota is the only manufacturer playing by the rules they all agreed to a few years ago.

    The other guys are playing number wars to sell trucks. Toyota plays too but not as brandishing of the BS as others.. The new engine hasn't finished official testing as far as I know and when it does, I doubt toyota will throw out numbers ASAP especially if they are good.

    Think about the 2015 trucks sitting on lots and being built. If they come out tomorrow and say that the 2016 is 500 bucks more, gets 5 mpg better accross the board and has all this updated fancy shit to boot.. oh btw its got 45000 hp.. They would lose a metric shit ton of cash on 2015 inventory because everyone would be like wtf am I buying this for?

    They are nit in a competition with themselves. . And they have been playing thus game over 30 years with the US trucks. . Rangers come out look at my gimmicks, Dakota comes out look at my v8 feel my leather. .. we have been down this road before and toyota takes longer each generation of truck. Its never brand spanking new always a new evolution with much more thought than expected. .

    everything they are doing they have done before.. more then once.

    Hell Toyota made Scion to experiment with so that they would not do anything too crazy under the toyota name.. Its a game of chess and the domestic guys bring shiny things and play circus games on the side to grab the attention. I doubt they are going to hand over their staple product without a fight.. the fight is what we have needed.

    I hope everyone likes this next generation because once it kills off another generation of domestic trucks its going to be all thats left and they will never change it again.. lol

    Toyota made Lexus and Scion to get around U.S. automotive import law limiting the number of models a single manufacturer can sell. Doesn't seem that effective a law, does it?

    Haha true.. But hey that law also gave a lot of people jobs because between that and taxes on imports Toyota moved a lot of industry to the USA

    I am buying domestic. Designed in the USA. Built in the USA. Badges from Japan. 2 out of 3 is domestic enough.

    Subaru got around the chicken tax import regs by putting pointless plastic seats in a pickup bed on the BRAT. There's almost always a way around gov't regulation, making it a waste of effort in the long run. But, I'll stop...getting dangerously close to political.
