Recommendation? I hate mounting ballast for HID's. Just wondering if any one here has tried them.

LED kits have a small driver box that's about the same size as HID ballasts:

I'm running the single-beam version of this kit in my Subaru. They are a definite upgrade in brightness and beam quality compared to the the HID kit I had in there before.

The dual-beam LED bulbs have two separate emitters on the unit for high- and low-beam. This is better than the HID kits which dick around with magnets, shrouds, or piggybacking a halogen bulb on top of the xenon bulb.

Not worth it. Highbeam is utterly useless. The design of the bulbs limits the distance the light is thrown. Sure they're real bright 10 feet in front of the truck, but that's about it. I've tried all forms of aftermarket light bulb replacement. Halogen headlight design are meant for nothing more than halogen bulbs. My PIAA bulbs were better than the LED kits like this. The only thing that was worth doing and works great was an HID retrofit.

    Listen to this guy ^^^

The color temperature is too high. Everything right in front of the truck is super bright, but you can't see shit down the road.

I have 70W Lifetime LED's, and they blow.

Reliability has been an issue with LED's as well.

Do a real HID retrofit, or just get a GOOD set of halogen bulbs. Don't waste your money on LED's like me.

I feel like even the "renown" aftermarket projectors around here still aren't that great.

If you've driven a vehicle with factory xenons and also a Tacoma w an aftermarket kit from the retrofit source ect, the aftermarket kit still kind of sucks. They are different from ones done from manufactures like bmw ect. The cut off is stark and sort of an eyesore. If you drive a high end vehicle w factory HIDs it's cut offs aren't quite as day/night, more gradual and natural. The light is focused properly.

I tried proper retrofit (35w & 55w) and still ended up going back to stock halogen. Been happy not fiddling or standing out.

    Check out my build

Generally people want the sharp cutoff. It's all about the lens, a clear lens gives the sharp cutoff most people want (like older oem hids. TSX, s2000, etc)
If you want a less aggressive cut off like the newer oems you can get a fresnel style. TRS offers both.
They also offer oem kits, which are th exact kits that came out of high end vehicles so they would look the exact same.

The design of the LEDs is a big reason in the low light output. Once you see them in person and see how they fit in the headlight housing you'll understand why they don't work that well in halogen housings. They rely on "bouncing the light" off certain portions of the housings. The low beam is one side of the bulb and angles towards the top of the lens because it then bounces off the top of the housing to shine low, then the high beam is placed at the bottom so it reflects off the bottom of the housing and then shines up to throw high. However, an LED light like this might work in a more conventional way like a regular bulb. I never tried one like this that might actually "throw" light in all directions and possible brighter when on high-->

Agree with all of this. Mine were 100% shit. I switched to Sylvania's and they were an upgrade from OEM.

At this point I'm just limping along with my crappy LED's until the 2016's come out. Hopefully the factory projectors are decent.

As were my Lifetime LED headlights. Lasted 10 months. Poor hi-beam. 100% shit.

I don't know, I have a set of LED bulbs in my 2011 and they are super bright and I don't have any problems with light projection or the distance they throw. I think they are much better than my old piaa extreme whites and any other halogen bulb I've tried. I manage an Auto Parts Store so I've been able to try them all! Lol
