My key fobs for my 2004 are worn out. I need to replace them. I know I can go to the dealer but is there a better after market alternative? I don't need anything fancy but want it it work well

    Thanks

Check out eBay (match up your exact model) and there's also a thread on here about the key/fob which is integrated together. I bought two of those and had them cut. They work great.

It should if the OP has the Toyota OEM system, but not if it's an aftermarket system.

Get online and find new housings, they will have new pads and you just throw your electronics in.

My 2004 has this FCC id:

It may not be that easy. "Worn out" to me says that the mechanical buttons are worn out from use.

Do you have the website where you found your housing? I have two for my Taco and one needs to be replaced.

FYI, there are a couple questions and reviews that say that does not work for peoples '02 and '03 Tacos.

Im looking for new fob shells as mine are broken where they attach to a key ring. Need to find the right shell, but will have to wait until I can dig the old one out, as Im getting rather tired of using the key every time.

Buy the all in one key for $34 then, mine works perfectly, or order it from Toyota Parts Zone for $46 for a factory fob

It works just fine, you just have to dremel a small spot on two for the electronics to sit flush, I have 2 of them

Hoo boy. Be aware, that if you order new remotes, the all-in-ones are the black version, NOT the grey. Toyota vehicles equipped with a RS3000 VIP system up to 1997 had a black remote housing. After 1997, they switched to grey. The FCC-IDs remained the same, however, leading to confusion.

Here's my explanation on that thread:

All the cheap cases I've found dont have a space for the red LED light.

My original fobs didn't have the red lights, maybe that is why it worked so easily for me?

That little light is the difference between a $6 case and a $100 remote. haha

Dumb question. I just bought a 2000 that has power locks and windows but didn't come with any FOB. Is there a box somewhere on the vehicle to tell what remote I'd need? Like maybe under the driver's kick panel?

The grey key fobs with the light just feel so flimsy. Plus, mine are starting to come apart. Would love to get a fob like I posted, but I don't know if they would work :(
