I'm surprised you have a belt sheath for that. Must feel like a badass with it on..

I'd probably setup a baldric rig for a chopper that size.

It is a low carbon steel. But it is easily hardened.
    See above answer.

There seems to be enough interest. I will probably make a small run of those.

those are normally a cast mold...doing it out of Ti or SS is possible...but I wouldn't want to do it...it'd take a bit of time and would be pretty expensive to machine.

I'm also pretty swamped at work for the next 5-6months and will be heading out on deployment not long after that.

I'll keep it in mind though, sounds like a fun project...gotta get creative with the machines...since my machines are all manual. cnc would make it easy.

No stress. I was going to mod the design to accommodate TRITS also. In that time frame, I will already have a CNC and will be able to machine my own parts.

I cut some wires here. Added some wires there.
Is this the one where the blade doesn't retract all the way?

The one you are referring to is the VenomTech by Microtech. They made an Ultratech with an elongated Makora blade basically. Anthony made the original dagger with the extended blade out of a Makora II and was sold under the Marifone Custom label (spelling)

These are the newer designed Makora II. The CF inlays are textured, vs the high gloss that they used to ship. My preference is for this blade drilling vs the other which was the 'hope' or 'priest' or something similar.

I'll post up some of the major differences later if you want. On our way out the door.

Venomtech's do not have a clip for the pocket as it is an impractical knife to cary like that. Instead, you get a kydex sheath. No CF on it either. Smaller handle .

Nice. Ive been torn between a Microtech OTF or a Bemchmade Infidel. I saw Benchmade has a new OTF coming out, the prowler or predator or something. I almost pulled the trigger a few weeks back and picked up a large Sebenza 21 instead. I really want a high end OTF, all the ones I do have are cheap Chinese knock offs. I also don't have anything in Elmax steel, but I'm also a big fan of Benchmade.

I have owned the Infidel and seen the newer versions too. Like the infidel, however, at the price point, there should be better materials used. I would try to get hands on with one of them and one Microtech so you can compare.

I will be adding one back to my collection eventually. My next OTF will be a Microtech Combat Troodon. They are the comparable size group as a Infidel as far as blade width goes. Bowie or Plain edge drop point blade is my goal.

As for the difference in action. the infidel feels squishy and unpredictable when deploying and retracting it. The microtech's are a solid hard action. you know when it will deploy and retract. The tolerances feel much tighter all the way around. Not to mention a plethora of materials. One of my favorite steels so far is the S35vn. Elemax is nice too, at the level of 'super steels' these guys are at, most people would never notice a difference.

From the fit to finish on a Microtech the quality and thought really shows. Proprietary screws, blade options, colors, etc. The knocks offs normally are cloned variations of microtech's.

I have had hands on with most of the OTF's out there and still go back to the Makora II for a purpose. It is a nice slender sturdy dagger. One of the ones that fits nicely in a pocket and you now it will be there for an emergency if the need ever arises.

As for the Combat Troodon- I intend to get the Bowie or drop point plain edge blade for its multi purpose more practical day to day use.

Retention of value/ Investment piece. - Benchmade stuff is normally a full production all the time deal. Normally you can find just about any of the knives from these guys well below mrsp. most of the time half price or better.

Beauty of the micro tech items. I normally see these go for what they are at MSRP or better. They tend to discontinue items from time to time. That increases the value of things exponentially since there is such a demand for them.

Boils down to what you want. I just recommend you go and try a few out and do a little research on what you intend to get. Lots of the forums, jerseydevil, bladehq, etc. See if you can meet up with a local guy or guys. They have local meets too. Or a shop. Or find a retailer that has a great return policy, like http://gearbarrel.com. Done some good business with them. Tell them skygear sent you and they will help you out. The owner, Kevin, knows who I am. I believe you can buy, and return with no restocking fee, just the shipping .
