TRD OR vs SR5 for cross country road trip

    Looking to upgrade by I4/5spd for a V6/Auto for a cross country road trip hauling some gear.

    I guess the question, basically, is one of general comfort for 99.9% on-road use. The TRD has different seats and suspension than the SR5 and I suspect the TRD OR would get the nod for off-road competence. Is the SR5 the obvious on-road winner?

    On road I believe the TRD OR seats will be more comfortable.

    My TRD OR was a pretty plush ride on road when it was stock. That being said why don't you test drive both and see for yourself which you prefer.

    Any possible difference in ride would be negligible. The seats are very different though. I would spend a good amount of time in each then make a choice.

    I've driven an SR5 and a TRD Sport several times New York to Florida. Never noticed any great difference between the two. Both are kind of tough for a multi thousand mile trip.
    Question: Why the bigger motor for a long highway trip? Unless the 4 banger has reliability issues, rack up the miles on that and buy a new one when you get back.

    What about the Sport? You get the TRD seats and suspension that would be better on-road than the SR5.

    I certainly will try them... but if there were a consensus opinion I might focus on one, rather than the other.

    Keeping the I4 remains an option, but I'm thinking that loaded for the trip the I4 might struggle over some of the western mt passes. Plus the auto would make it easier for the wife and I to share in the driving.

    My opinion is the TRD seats are much more comfortable. Ive used my truck on many long trips and feel it's quite comfortable. I never feel fatigued or the need to reposition myself. Mines a sport, but I have a different suspension than stock.

    Can't comment on TRD, haven't spent much time in one. SR5 seat have been fine for me on many 6+ hr drives between Puget Sound and central Oregon. Stock suspension was a good ride too. I knew I was going to swap out the suspension, wheels, tires anyways so I saved a few grand w the SR5. 2008 DCLB didn't have a factory locker option that I could find just a LSD so I didn't see the point in a TRD for me anyways. Test drive, You'll be happy either way.

    A couple of days after buying my OR DC, I loaded my family up (wife and three kids in the back, ages 9, 7 and 6) and drove 650 miles one way to my mother's and 650 back a couple of days later.

    No complaints. Thing rides like a 70's Caddy ElDorado at interstate speeds.

    You are thinking of trading in a 2014 for a 2015 because of a cross country trip? You might want to look at renting. For long cross country trips a rental with unlimited miles can be very cost effective compared with driving your own vehicle once you account for maintenance and depreciation costs. That's only true when you are driving a lot rather quickly since rentals are based on duration. If it is a slow trip staying lots of places along the way then my rental idea is pretty dumb :)

    Beyond that unsolicited out of the box suggestion, while I haven't tried both myself I do hear a lot of people prefer the TRD seats to the SR5 (as already expressed by a few in this thread).

    We'll be on the road for a few months, hitting most of the western Natl Parks and visiting friends and family from Florida to Alaska. Lots 'o camping gear and some sort of shell. Under certain conditions a rental might be smart, but is simply unappealing to me.

    I could wait for a look at the 2016, but recent events make an auto appealing right now..... (recent rotator cuff surgery makes shifting a challenge).
