The victim of an assault used his friends’ connections on the popular networking site Facebook to track down the suspect, Wichita County court records show.
Brandon Lee Barnett, 22, was charged with aggravated assault, a second-degree felony, after he was identified by a witness in pictures posted on the Web site. Barnett’s bond was set at $50,000, and he was being held in the Wichita County Jail on Wednesday.
According to an arrest warrant affidavit:
A Wichita County Sheriff’s Office deputy working security at the Shrine Fest concert Aug. 22 was told a man was headed to the ambulance area for a cut on his face.
The victim had a 2-inch cut between his nose and lip but said he did not know how he got it. He went to the emergency room to be treated for the injury.
A few days later, the victim’s wife called the sheriff’s office and said the victim started to recall facts about an assault when they got to the hospital.
He said he was returning to their seating area at the festival when he saw a man between 20 and 30 years old reaching into his group’s cooler and taking beer.
He said he told the man to put the beer back, but the man smiled at him and continued to take the beverage. He did not remember anything beyond that.
A witness said he saw the victim and a man get into a brief argument before the man hit the victim in the face with his fist, then continued to hit him once he was on the ground.
The victim’s wife told deputies she was not there during the assault but had asked witnesses what happened. She was told the man who assaulted her husband was wearing an unbuttoned white shirt and a blue bandana.
The victim and his wife looked at photos taken at the festival and found a man who matched the suspect’s description and put the pictures on the victim’s Facebook page, asking for help identifying him.
The victim got a message from a friend identifying the man as Barnett.
The victim and his wife searched the man’s name and found his Facebook page, where they saw pictures he had posted of himself from Shrine Fest, wearing the same outfit witnesses described and the victim’s pictures showed.
A conversation on the suspect’s page from Aug. 23 contained questions from people asking if it was true that he had “busted up” a guy’s face, and Barnett responded, “Something like that.”
He also made the comment, “Shouldn’t have done that. ... But he was in my grill mouthin like I was a chump lol,” court paperwork states.
The victim provided deputies with copies of medical bills, which showed that the cut went through his skin and required stitches inside his mouth.
The deputy included pictures of the injury, as well as copies of the Facebook activity, in his report when he filed the warrant.

So did he actually say "lol" or are the courts adopting common shorthand for laughter in their paperwork?

Good story. Too bad he'll only get a slap on the wrist, a small fine and be sent on his merry way.

Someone like this has the mentality to cause more serious harm than a couple stitches (think work shootings, rape, child abuse, etc). I just hope I'm nowhere near him when he decides to burst again.

What an idiot. Felony assault while committing a robbery and he advertises his face all over the internet. This is what happens when people are selfish and think they can't do any wrong......Mr. Tough Guy Barnett better hope he doesn't have any hemmorrhoids easily inflamed......
