I hear ya'. Just shoot irons until a much better scope goes on sale at your price point. I see that you are in Murphy, NC. I was in Murphy about about 16 years ago when they were trying to hunt down that Olympic bomber guy. Nice little town, I must say!

Look at some of the Primary Arms stuff. They sell a lot of optics on their site but the house brand is decent quality and reasonably cheap. Vortex Strikefire is also great for a cheap red dot and you can add a magnifier later if you want

A start to my next build, 6.5 Grendel. Just going to build the upper for now. I've got a .458 socom that I'm gonna put a better trigger in (probably another timney, I like the timney I have in my other gun). I figure that the .458 socom and the Grendel are both gonna be more hunting guns, so I'll swap those uppers for the time being

18" stainless Satern barrel and a 15" diamond head rail

I like Diamondhead rails! I have them on three of my AR uppers... they are a bit heavier than the rails that I used to have but are really comfortable in my hands.

110 rounds down range tonight. Only 1 misfeed/jam and it was out of the pmag (but i dont think it was the mag that caused it).

Shot 80 rounds through the Hera mags and they worked flawlessly. Loading is a little more difficult shoving the last few bullets in though but it held all 30 like its supposed to. Id have to say at $5 a mag its not a bad deal at all. And id buy again eventually

So does anyone know if anyone makes wood forward grips for the AR-10/LR 308 platform, found some for the AR-15 but no Ar-10.

Turnbull did it. Doubt he offers a stand alone set though.

yeah I've looked at boyds, they have nice stuff for fairly cheap, I also like the look of Karl Nill wood pistol grips (pricey $225 per grip). Currently all I can see is custom making a forward grip.

Those 60 grain 22's are sweet but they do not stabilize very well through pistols. They keyhole the targets for me every time I shoot some through the pistol. My 10/22 on the other hand they do OK and sure hit something with a thud!

I've always been scared to try them through my can. SWR put a specific callout not to use them in the Spectre owners manual. I know Volquartsen makes a specific 1:9" twist 10/22 barrel to stabilize those long bullets, and I always figured a conversion kit in an AR should shoot them pretty well too.

So I want to build a carbine I can toss around in the truck and burn up in classes - I'm thinking about buying a BCM upper. which seems like a great deal for solid parts. I can't decide if I want a 14.5" upper or 16". I want a pinned front sight, so I'd either pick up a Daniel Defense Omega rail for the 14.5" gun, or break it down & install a Troy VTAC on the 16". I can get a VTAC for about $50 less than the Omega, plus pinning a BCM Mod 1 comp on the upper is an extra $80 (Mod 0 comp is free with the 16" version), so I'd be into the 14.5" upper for $130 more than the 16" upper. Doesn't seem like a good deal to save ~1" overall. Anyone have any input? Anyone have a pinned 14.5" upper they love or hate?

My brother runs a BCM. He loves it. Solid gun IMO. Not as nice as mine of course, but for a run gun it is pretty nice.

Just get the 14.5" with unpinned a2 FH. They'll ship it out no problem. Then you can put on whatever muzzle device you want.

I have to say their uppers are very solid, I've dismantled two of them to change rails and its a total bitch. You need to heat up the barrel nut to loosen the loctite they use and you still might even bust a knuckle from the exerted force. To avoid this get one made with the rail you want. The KMR rail is really nice. I suggested their LW 14.5 middy with 13" KMR to my friend and he absolutely loves it.

I caved on a PSA 16" middy because it was on sale for $275 and I wanted a spare upper to pretty much destroy.
