Post your 1st gen retrofit (01-04 only)

I'm looking for examples of retrofits performed on 2001-2004 (non-rectangular headlights). Specifically, I'd like to compare how the different choices look:
- housing left chrome / painted
- shroud left chrome / painted

Please specify which shroud you have.

The only good example with photos I have found is the 2004 Tacoma Projector Retrofit thread.

Projectors: LHD (North American Standard)
Shrouds: Mini Gatling Gun
Housing: left chrome

Gatling 2.0
Spyder 1-piece Headlights
Headlights were untouched/unpainted when purchased.
So, black housing, chrome reflector, chrome shroud.
Extras: Triple Angel eyes
-Amber led halos outside shroud
-White led halos inside through ports holes(which are currently disabled)
-White ccfl's stacked behind the white led halo for a 'back-glow' effect as well as help illuminate the passive demon eye.
-5mm cool white dtrl led's(which come built in on these headlights)
-Passive demon eye (projector shields/limiters painted metallic blue)

Personally I think you should match your retro to your vehicle. As in if you have a chrome grille such as mine, you should keep it chrome. Or if its black, paint it. I think mine matches pretty well to my truck if I do say so myself. I considered painting it black, glad I didn't!!







I also had another section I typed up regarding Halo's, but was too long so I cut it out. I did save it, if you'd like me to post it back up, let me know. Talks about using different combinations of halos and effects when using the gatling 2.0 shrouds, with a chrome reflector....

I agree. I have a chrome grill and don't think I'm going to be painting or dipping it black anytime soon, so it's good to see your truck with the unpainted housings and chrome grill. Someone with a silver truck needs to post up their chrome grill and lights now so I know for sure!

In your case I think it looks perfect with black housings on a silver truck! The grille makes it pop even more and gives a nice even two tone look. Perfectly matching, nice and subtle. I think if they were left chrome, it woulda looked a bit odd. Seems like if you match it to your grille or other 'outstanding' features (your bumper in this case), it matches perfectly in most retros from what I've seen.

Any done a retrofit on an Impulse Red Pearl with chrome surrounds like this?

 

Chrome surrounds as in the bowl is chrome or that the grill is chrome? I could try to Photoshop some retros in to give you an idea?

 

I say black them out! You've already got a lot of black up front. Match it to your black accents. You've got red accents to match your truck color... Not much else is chrome except your grille trim.

 

I was referring to the chrome grill surround. Photoshoping sounds interesting.

I'm not opposed to blacking out the reflector.

Something I've not seen much of, is a blacked out reflector leaving the shroud chrome. That leaves a chrome tie-in to the chrome surround.

Haha, those are great. A lot better than I could do. Of the two, I kinda like the one with the blacked out reflector.

Okay, these photos turned out a bit better! I found a couple of retros with black housings and chrome shrouds however they were really low quality photos and taken at weird angles so it was hard to get them to look right. The other ones turned out well though. I however replace the corner lights on the truck, leaving them made the photo look really off.

I think the chrome shrouds with the black housing looked the best on your truck!

If you have any more requests I would be happy to do them! Photoshop is pretty fun
