ABS on this truck is dangerous...

That's a good point, except due to a few things we discussed about friction I think a well adjusted ABS system should be able to put down enough static frictional force to allow for near normal non ABS stopping distances. ABS doesn't drag out stopping distances very far in my experience. I wish my wife wasn't preggers so I could get someone to do some videos of me stopping both of my trucks to illustrate this on some packed snow.

Finally something we agree on . Yes OZ, on pure snow and back roads no ABS is the way to go .

My Tacoma seems to be fine . You and I even run the same tires, like I said I think there's something different about who made or programmed our ABS systems.

True dat as well. Most posters with strange ABS issues have 2009 or earlier second generation Tacoma's.

Mine is a 2013 and I don't believe it has issues that are not expected. My 2008 never had working ABS at all.. this thread is now invalid.

I'm an old fart when I was a youngster we were actually taught how to stop a car/truck in slick weather guess what it involved? Yep pulsing the brakes as rapidly as you could this method worked pretty good in my 51 Plymouth wagon talk about a low tech car. I can stop my Tacoma in slick weather without activating the ABS or if it does I just let up on the brake don't panic then complain that "my ABS tried to kill me". I agree ABS on low traction can cause slightly longer stopping distances but it also allows you a better degree of control. Our accident division at the PD often had a hard time on crash investigation with ABS on hard surfaces due to the lack skid marks but they also said hands down it stopped the cars faster. Crash investigation in slick weather all ways came up with "too fast for conditions" all one needs to do is look at pictures of 100 car pile ups.

The last time my ABS in my 13' acted up I was entering an unplowed turning lane last weekend at 2 - 3mph (consciously going extra slow because I was worried about the ABS issue), applied brakes and my truck continued to slide at the same rate of speed right past the turn. It easily took double to triple the distance to stop than it should have. Do you think I was driving "too fast for conditions" at 2 - 3mph?

I've never experienced anything like that in my previous 7 vehicles ABS or not. Would have hit another car if there was one there waiting to turn, luckily there wasn't. Should I have come to a complete stop in the main lane before entering the turning lane at 1mph? Not sure what I could have possibly done different?

I plan on adding an ABS disable switch in the very near future for driving in snow or downhill muddy off-road conditions.

lol Cars were coming towards me in the opposite lane, so couldn't really cross over the opposite lane at the time.

Deff going to add new Duratracs or some other good winter tire next fall along with the ABS disable switch.
