I have a 2006 Tacoma 4x4 access cab 4 cylinder 5sp. In Sept, 2009, I took pics of what I thought was excessive frame rust and brought it to Toyota and of course they told me "nothing to worry about. it is just surface rust." The rust appeared to be concentrated at the welds, especially the front half of the frame. Over the last 5 years, I have scraped, repainted, and sprayed the frame myself with Fluid Film NAS (an anti corrosive) every year (it starts to wash off after about a year, but has been great stuff). Has anyone done the same? Did they (Toyota) reimburse you for the work (I have all receipts) probably totaling more than $1000! I feel Toyota should just replace all these frames and be done with it rather than just treat with CRC and face potential legal action in the coming years for more failed frames/injuries caused by same. It does not seem fair that only certain Tacomas get new frames.:mad:A defective frame will always be defective. Any advice or comments? Has anyone involved with the recall demanded frame replacement?

Just last year, my driver side leaf spring cracked and punctured the rear brake line (lost my brakes) and came very close to striking the gas tank. Guess I was lucky that myself or no one else around me was injured. They will also be reimbursing me for the cost of the leaf springs (another recall).

My dealer told me my frame rust on my '12 was nothing to worry about. So I repainted everything with POR and will apply fluid film 1-2X per year trying to preserve my shitty frame until someday the dealer may have to replace it. I will be saving my receipts in case.

My 2006 has been in the garage since Dec 13, 2014 waiting for frame that was under a recall but they are not only replacing the frame, they are replacing everything else, springs, etc so from the bottom of the cab everything is going to be new. Si I will be getting basically a new truck for the used car price I paid for it.

You will not basically be getting a new truck. You'll be getting your old truck, slapped back together by hacks.

First, the frame is not under recall which is why only certain trucks get it.

Second, it is only valid for 12 years from first day of service, UNLESS the vehicle is a CPO

Third, from what Toyota has outlined the CRC must be applied within 2 years or the replacement is nullified.

Anyway, good luck on getting Toyota to reimburse you. It is not something that most companies do without some sort of record of inspection from a franchised dealer...you know, legality and liability crap.

2weeks ago I talked about this with a dealer here in TX, not an issue here as we don’t salt anything other than pork.
The current coating is good for mall crawling and places like Arizona that has no salt air.

The rustolium I just sprayed on the new rock sliders sticks and seems to protect better than the smooth stuff they used.

Will probably get the frame done by Line-X soon.
