    I agree, I absolutely love working on my truck. It just, the whole new hub and stuff sounds really tempting.

    It's up to you man, but really you only need to replace the hub if the bearing is so smoked it gouged the hub. plus don't you have to send your old ones back anyways?

    Or if the hub is damaged during disassembly. Doesn't take much to cause premature bearing failure.

    Pretty sure there IS NOT a core charge from either of the guys here on TW. Getting the entire pre-assembled unit is definitely wayyy easier and more cost/time efficient in my eyes. I don't want to jack truck up, disassemble, bring to a shop to press bearings, drive back and install again. I'd rather have it all ready and not leave my driveway. Plus new parts are better than using old, rusty or worn junk.

    Okay, well not a "core charge" but a "core agreement?" If you have to send your old hubs back in that's basically a core charge?

    Or am I missing something? I read through the thread and didn't see anything about sending them back in!

    Yes, having a preassembled hub would make things easier for anyone and everyone involved. I (as a singular person) couldn't wait 2 weeks for wheel bearings to come in the mail. Maybe if this was a planned job and I had them sitting around, or If I go through wheel bearings and it becomes a very common thing to replace them I might invest in another set of hubs just for ease of installation. I could have them ready and waiting! A wheel bearing is something I don't really want to fuck with.

    In my case, taking my wheel bearings out and giving them to my father (a Master Toyota tech, for the last 25 years) to press in for me was my best bet. However I have faith in almost everyone on TW (and I mean absolutely no offence to anyone on here when I say this), I just happen to trust that my father more than someone on the internet. Which I think is reasonable.

    In my case, reusing my old hubs was a safe bet and the easiest. I found out I needed wheel bearings on Thursday night, and had them installed by Monday night. If I had ordered them I'd still be waiting for them driving around with a funky ass break pedal and odd clunks, and worse gas mileage.

    But what works for me doesn't always work for you. and vise versa.

    I wouldn't consider a hub a wearable item. Yes, they will wear out, or be broken, but there's no time interval where you must replace them. Mine looked brand spankin' new. Why would I spend the extra money if I don't have to?!

    Just dropped a clutch in the truck and now wheel bearings!? What's the BEST cheapest way for me to do this? Especially where I live in Canada, lets ad another 65-80 bucks to that, OH I saved money!

    I will agree with you. I'm all about saving money when I can, that is why I work on my own vehicle for a majority of things. The wheel studs would probably break before the hub wears out in most cases. I know my hubs were fine when I changed my bearings, and pressing only takes about a half hour per side once the press is setup properly. and if you are so anal about rust being on them wire wheel them or sand blast and wire wheel them. Like Mitch said, having spare hub assemblies around would be nice if blowing through wheel bearings, but I'm pretty sure mine were factory, so that would make them 8 years old when I did my bearings.
