Yeah, but the notion that protein doesn't work or is a waste is incorrect. My ON is .69 cents per scoop; that's .69 cents per 24 grams of protein. Chicken is NOWHERE near that cheap. The closest thing to that is canned tuna, which is still around .75 cents a can for 22 grams of protein. This is all based on the assumption that one is using ON Gold Standard whey, which is arguably the best and one of the highest-quality proteins out there.

I agree with you about not consuming all your protein at once. I consume around 25-45g per meal, which is every 2-3 hrs or so. I don't think it's feasible to consume 100 grams of protein in one sitting when you can spread that out over a few hours.

I also agree with you on 99% of supplements being total shit. I take protein, creatine, and a pre-workout.

Lastly, I do get your point, though. Companies put a big mother fucker on the tub and claim you'll look like them in 30 days if you use their product. HOWEVER, I do agree that protein powder does have its place in a diet...provided, the user knows it's simply used to supplement protein from other sources.

Anybody here eat fish? Cause there are health warnings about eating fish more than once or twice week for certain groups (I'm speaking about ocean caught, not farm raised).

I saw the article as incomplete at best. Designed more to sell magazines with claims of unknown poisons (highlighting dangers of rather than 'traces not considered harmful'), lawsuits over banned substances, and targeting teenagers. Sure there were some comparison but if you're calling them equal, then powder is way more convenient. Plus, for me at least, the egg & milk price is probably more equal. More scary than factual.

There are some fish with high mercury content and preggo moms go nuts about it. I have been told not to eat trout everyday but that hasn't stopped me from binging on them when I catch a bunch.

I eat a shit ton of fish...I live on an island.

Well said Kona..that article had given me a little pause about MM. I've tried a couple of other whey brands.

    GNC..didn't care for it.
ON..liked it but as I mentioned, high cholesterol compared to MM.

These are the same folks who think creatine can kill you...

Moral of the story: protein isn't going to cause significant increases in muscle mass; it's simply there to supplement other sources of protein. I use it because it's cheaper per gram than most other sources and because it can be prepared and consumed in less than a minute

I'm just saying the only benefit to whey protein at all is to supplement other sources of protein

The first statement is just simply not true. You hear it all the time, but it's been tested. Too many variables to get a black and white answer.

Second part is questionable. I too would rather buy food, but at a fraction of the cost? Protein cost about $30 for 25-30 servings, even less when buying in bulk. Hard to find anything with 30g of protein for $1. Plus the ease of shake and go, as opposed to cooking also give protein a +1.

Protein powders aren't designed to replace all food. Most here take them for the added calories and protein to meet a macro goal for the day. Something that would take more time and more money without.

I do them where the bar is at the bottom of my knee, but I also don't do them that much; that's just what's most comfortable for me

I do at home but not in the gym. Mostly because i don't want to bring them. That said, if you are having pain it's probably because of how you hold the bar. The image on the left is wrong. The one on the right is correct.
