Did you have to get some type of adaptor for the coaxial cable or does it connect directly to the antenna?

Is that the spring I gave you? 'cause IDK if it's just because it's on the Spruce Taco, but it sho does seem shinier than when it was on the Odd Green Taco!

 

Actually I think it's the one you have now. I think that pic is from when I finished the install.

 

That helps a lot thanks. So does all that stuff (besides the bracket) usually come with the antenna? I've got a radio and coaxial cable so far. I need to pick up a firestick and make a bracket.

 

Actually, I'm not sure. I thought the one you gave me had hex shaped end plates on it while the one in the pic appears to have round end plates like the one I gave you. And I can't look because I toasted that one on the December trip and had to replace it. I ended up getting a medium duty stainless steel Firestik spring. We'll see if it holds up a little better. If not, I'm going to see if Right Channel will maybe send me a heavy duty spring with a hefty discount since they assured me what happened to the other one wouldn't happen to this one.

 

All the washers & bolt come with the stud. The coax in the pic is the Firestik fire ring & it has a ring the bolt goes through. If your coax is the other type (same on both ends) you'll need a different stud. The antenna comes by itself, nothing else.

The one I gave you was a medium duty. If you remember we traded cause my medium duty wasn't stiff enough & your heavy duty was too stiff & made your roof pop.

 

I think your right Lee, I just looked & the one I have now has round ends. So that pic is your old one.

 

Ayup. I knew it was a medium duty. I don't think it was stainless though. I think it was chrome plated brass or something (the end plates looked kind of yellow). The coils on the Fire Stik medium stainless are significantly finer and there's more of them. It's a longer spring over all than the old one. It also has the round end plates like your current one has so yours may be a Fire Stik spring as well...just a heavy duty one.

I don't know if it will hold up any better, but Right Channel said it would so I took a chance on getting another medium duty spring. If it takes on a permanent bend after the Citrus meet, I'm going to complain bitterly to them and see if they'll take care of me.

 

When I bought that spring it was supposed to be a Firestik. The one I got now has a slight bend in it.

Hmm...cause the new medium duty one I got is a Fire Stik...came in a Fire Stik blister pack and everything...and it looks a lot different from the old one.

The one you have I bought back in '94 or '95. I honestly don't know what brand it is, but it's probably a Fire Stik since it was bought with my Fire Stik antenna from North Tampa CB, who installed it on my YJ. My new one looks a lot like the one you have (with the round end plates) except for the finer spring coils.

Anyway, we'll see how it works. If I have to go back to a heavy duty spring, so be it.
