Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
Not like an old Toyota pickup was impressive.

Or a Power Wagon is impressive in its own right.

Or a Rubicon, in its own environment.

Or a UniMog.. In any environment :)

But given the competition, it doesn't have to be impressive. It just has to do the job, and be a better investment than another option.

And for me, personally it does the job, and is the most logical solution to get the job done. And I like it.

Until something is more reliable, can do the same work, is more efficient for the same work, or is just better.. Or I just need s bigger truck to get the job done. I will still be driving one.

I guess it is impressive, it is just not AS impressive as it could or should be. When your competition is less than impressive, its hard to strive for much more than maintaining. I hope that the market pushes Toyota to make it Impressive as hell again.

I'd buy a 2016 Tacoma as my next truck if I could wait. I like the size and power of my current truck. I think I would like that combination from Toyota again.

If I couldn't wait I'd be in an 2015 Ford F150 FX4 Crew Cab Short Box with the 3.5L Ecoboost engine. We have quite a few of the XLT F150's at work with the Ecoboost in them and when you take care of them the trucks are absolutely amazingly capable, even though it's a little bigger than I'd want considering I still have my 2014 2500 Ram for towing.

Like I said minimal off road and city Fords good truck. Back roads in southern AB are like highways North pretty mild..Further North you go in the province that much harsher the terrain on 4x4 trucks.

    Wrong O

I like my Tacoma , but it doesn't impress me so much that I don't find some faults with it or things that I would like to see added to it but it would seem that if anyone posts those observations you come down on them like Fan Boy George and they should get rid of their Tacoma if they find a single fault with it .

    That's not reality .

We beat the piss out of our Fords lol. We field scout, soil sample, and deliver +1000 lbs plus loads all day long in the summer, winter, fall, and spring. They hold up extremely well compared to Dodge and GM in our fleet. We don't run the Tundra anymore because it's too expensive to buy and too expensive to run. If you like something else I'm not here to piss on your parade .

" If you weren't going to buy a Tacoma , what would you buy ? "

What are the chances that in a thread like that people might discuss the merits of some non-Tacoma vehicles ?

You think I say that to people becuase of a single fault with their truck or the fact they complain about it everyday...your smart enough dude just cause your playing on there side dont mean you have to act like I dont know what Im talking about...you know why I said they should get rid of it because of constant complaining not because of a single fault...be real ;)

Oh I have plenty of faults.

So far, has the least faults of the available options :)

I personally just feel the Tacoma fits my needs and personality more. And I don't understand why some people basically have a bunch against it and more or less clearly wish they were in a different vehicle. Those people I think should move on instead of bitching.

Anyone and everyone should bring up the issues though, its how we learn and make improvements etc.

Sorry to piss on your parade but southern AB roads are not what I'd consider working any truck hard. Been there lived it and learned the difference that's all I'm saying, terrain on its own makes a HUGE difference. Be well..

Our family work trucks were all fords and a couple small Toyota's.

That was before the tundra, and the ford trucks did serve well in comparison to the GM and Chrysler options.

I would love a Ford Superduty with a Cummins. Destroked has kits, and if I ever need a large truck that I don't buy new I would go that route.

Okay, I'll take a picture for you next time I have to soil sample a ridged field with an F150. Driving a truck over 9 inch soil formed dykes isn't working a truck hard because it's Southern Alberta .

BTW I do get what you're trying to say. You probably worked in the patch as a battery operator or something and then moved to Edson. Yes the public gravel and access roads to well and tank sites are pretty nicely maintained here. Once you start heading down into Coulees to get into irrigated fields or "scenic" farm yards on private roads the road conditions go to shit.

Yup, the Cummins is a nice motor. It's too bad Dodge can't put up a better truck around it :pout:

I manage the people who manage the operators, Process Engineer by education and with small corporations I'm a superintendent.. but close guess yes none less that's how I started many years ago. All good it's all about perception let's just say I've been pulled out by a D8 cat with skeg and mud half way up my truck more times then I care to recall. Anyhow leave it at that I ain't into dick measuring over a silly topic. We had reverse experience with truck costs from what you seen. In end if you feel you have best suited to your conditions and expectations that's great.

I wan't trying to dick measure :p, just wanted to pass on my experience with our company fleet trucks. Like you said experiences can differ from company to company. My Dodge 2500 work truck has a tilted bumper because of the way Dodge f'ing mounted the recovery hooks to the frame  and I've only pulled out a few half tons this year. I think we discussed this before. You like the Tundra right. I will say that we trade all of our trucks off around 150K km's and have a few leases set up that way too. I have no doubt that the Tundra may turn out better over the longer run since the Ecoboost is an arm and a leg to fix after you are out of warranty, but between excellent dealer support and the truck itself our entire business has been very impressed with our Fords for years.

We even tried that 15w-40 Delvac trick for silencing the cam knocking noise on a few of our 5 year old 5.4 L F150's we use as yard trucks at 150K when they started hard idling. It fixed the noise, the weird idle, and they're all around 300K km's on the original motors now :D. I'm going to sell them off this year for a few grand each to some customers who need yard trucks to help offset the costs a new floater we are purchasing this year. It's been a while since I've been able to sell off trucks that old except for scrap.

Honestly for a work/fleet truck that is well maintained I don't know if a Tundra would pay off in the end.

Maybe at least not one that actually saw heavy usage off the road. I can't say I know of any that do. And they do cost more up front.

On the road, compared with other light/medium trucks I would think that they would. But I am only ball parking, I don't have much experience with the Tundra, or fleet trucks except Govt fleet trucks and they are trash.

From what I could tell, the curb weight of the F150 I would get would be around 4900 lbs. My Tacoma is just over 4700 lbs IIRC. So you're saying 129 HP more isn't enough to make up for less than 1,000 lbs difference?

I'm confused since people drop 4-5 g's for the TRD SC which adds what, only 30 HP?

It's not hate. I'm just exhausted with dealing with the same fucking problems vehicle after vehicle. They all burned oil. The 93 tercel was a quart every week or two and traded before I put any money into that problem. The 98 tercel had the cat replaced twice at $300 each before I chipped it and bypassed the secondary O2 sensor. The Rav4 was shutting off traction control and 4WD every time the damn code came on. We bought it to have 4wd in the snow, so that was fucking worthless. They wanted $1500 to replace the exhaust. Not doing that shit each year to pass inspection like I did with the Corolla. The 06 Tacoma is doing the same thing, and I was quoted $1600 for one cat alone, let alone both side AND labor! No fucking way I'm putting over $3,000 into passing state inspections because Toyota has a history of burning oil. I'm getting by with a spark plug non-fouler on 1 O2, and soon the other one since that's throwing the other code now. But I have no idea how long that'll last, or if I'm only legal now because the shop I go to didn't give a shit and passed it anyway. (Someone else might fail it and then I couldn't drive until it's fixed.)

That doesn't even get into the rust and other issues.

I don't give a shit about sports honestly. And I have the same truck because I enjoyed not having a car payment for a while. Maybe that's too difficult for either of you to understand? Wife's out of work due to back problems, leaving one income for a family of 7. But yeah, let me run right out and drop another $30-$40,000 on a new truck. Better yet, buy me a new truck since it seems so easy for you.

Thanks for the info! I was looking at the Tundra, but the MPG's seemed lower than everyone else and my history with Toyota has been frustrating. I'm really trying to find something a bit bigger and more powerful that doesn't force me to repeat the same shit I've already been through. The aluminum body and other features made me think the F150 might fit the bill. Especially with being able to extend the bumper to bumper warranty to 5 yrs/100,000 miles.
