    Ahh balls.
For rear .008 on rebound. 10 or 12's on comp or a mixture of both for your truck. I would do a flutter too for smoothies.

Appreciate the response, I'll try that out. Probably go with a .012 rebound and see where its at. Im interested to see how the flutter performs too. Im sure I'll be taking them apart more when I get to do some more trips and see how it performs but i'll try that. Fresh oil, new valving, and new spring rate, im sure it will feel way different.

Any one else have experience on the 2nd gens?

What's the benefit of rocking the stock dash bar on a 1st gen vs mounting the stock dash off the cab cage? Will eventually have HVAC, stereo, etc. have the dash but just a cage and no stock dash bar.

I tack all 8. Just be sure to place the tack in a location where you can fit a grinder.

Has anyone with a 1st gen (or 2nd I guess) had their spindle bolts fail?

I was just driving down the street, not even cornering or anything and bam the passenger side collapsed. All the bolts were lock tited and properly torqued the week prior, and none of them had backed out when it failed. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this? I'm going to reverse analyze how they broke and then add a large factor of safety and reinforce everything, though these were the original stock bolts so I'm guessing they failed from cyclic loading.

You mean the lower ball joint bolts?

    Yes.

    Very common issue.

Use red loctie and 45lbs/Tq when installing the bolts. Then you'll ne good

So my next duty station will be Alaska.

So the truck is going to be getting remote start in the next couple of weeks and lockers front and rear before I go.

Should be better than my current duty station (Missouri) for letting the truck stretch its legs / use the suspension

    59 lbs torque, not 45.
And torque the bolts with the steering wheel locked.

And yeah...judging by the pictures, bolts were loose.

LBJ, spindle, whatever. I don't have a LBJ so I don't refer to them anymore.

I'll try it. The bolts obviously didn't back out since there are still remains deep inside of the spindle where they snapped, and like I said they were previously torqued and already red loctited.

What do you mean you don't have a LBJ?
How does the LCA connect to the spindle then?

And yeah. Snapping like that is a result of sheer force. Which means you either have trash bolts or the bolts were loose.

I modified my LBJ into just a steering knuckle with a bolt to mount to my uniball LCAs. I don't know how or why it failed, like I said the bolt remains were still inside the spindle (meaning they would react shear loadings just like normal) for all four bolts and they were the OEM bolts.

Look at this guy... I think most experienced people will agree with the diagnosis that Jberry gave you. If the hardware was indeed OEM Toyota, they were probably loose or really old and fatigued. They could have seized in the spindle and prevented you from tightening them properly. Any play can and will cause them to shear after just a few miles.

Let's see some pictures of your modifications, Mr. 3 posts...

I'll rep for Mr. 3 post. He is an awesome dude with incredible fab skills. Not some dude that welded extensions on stock arms. This guy does know his shit and I'd trust him with my rig in his hands. That said, I agree with Jberry. Probably just old bolts.
