Look familiar? ;) you're crazy for getting rid of it in my opinion! But thanks for building this thing. Its everything I would have done myself but I think with how it worked out Im coming out ahead (total money spent) this way.hdr_00096_0-1_zpsn5kluejo_b609b35c30f8c4e63f47abbf625f873b32e36b07.jpg

Haha nice find. It was just a matter of time. I just hope she went to a good home, at least I'm glad I know the new owner is TW member and not some knuckle head, but with the heavy price tag that they put on it I figured someone worth having it would buy it. I mean they had to get as much money as they could for how much they gave me for it.

Thanks for the heads up on the alignment. They had a bit of a heavy price on it but they came down a few grand and when I compared it to a comprable stock Tacoma the price was real close. So I figured I was getting this (hopefully lightly) Used truck with all of the upgrades for practically what a new stock version would run me...so all in all I feel we made out alright. I'll tell you one thing, it WILL be used as a truck. Its going to double as daily driver as well as hunting rig.

I would have to imagine you had to take somewhat of a hit trading this thing in after all that work...no?

Well I am glad they came down on the price, because when I saw what they listed it for I was like . As long as you and I got a good deal out of it that's all that matters. If you have any questions let me know I did all the work on her myself.

I appreciate it. We got a decent deal. It wasnt a steal but thats ok. We're happy. We put a decent amount down on it so that helps. Did you sell those step bars off of your Pro already?

I got a really awesome deal on it when I first bought it so not really. I mean you always lose money when it comes to this type of things, but the way I look at it I enjoyed her, enjoyed working on her, and it was a fun hobby and you can't put a price on that.

I actually did  I wish I would've known a TW member was going to get it and I would have saved some of the parts I took off. Don't worry I didn't strip it or anything. I just have a few other stuff I payed a lot more for that were bolt ons that I removed prior.

No worries. I've been there done that! Its kind of nice this time around I dont have to do much of the building like I usually do. Just a few accessories here and there. I saw you used to have a tonneau for it...but I probably would have actually removed it and sold it so its good you were able to recoup a bit from those things. We may be putting a shell on it here soon. I hear ya on the hobby part. If you dwell on the cost you might as well keep your rigs stock and take up building scale models haha.

    Hey guys,

I took my truck out this week for a decent off road test drive. First off I have to say the TRD pro drives great on the street. It rides smooth, but definitely can tell the suspension is tighter on turns. It drives way better than my previous stock TRD O/R and better than my previous Icon Stage II.

When we hit dirt, I was really impressed as well as my buddy, who is not a Tacoma guy. The interior is really quite. I felt like I was driving in my previous BMW. The ride was great. Suspension was smooth and very responsive. This thing rips through the desert. It handled great at 40-50mph. I really didn't get on it too much as I am still in the breaking period. I know for some the 4.0 is weak, but for me is plenty. I am still going to put in the supercharger hopefully soon.

I would say that my Pro drives way better than as stock TRD O/R and hangs with my previous Icon Stage II off road and beats it on the street.

The negatives, I would have really liked Toyota putting better leaf springs on the Pro. The mud flaps are as we know too long. I could here them scraping a few times. They should have done All weather floor mats. Although nice embroider TRD Pro carpet mats, they get dirty really fast and a pain to clean.

In overall I am very happy with the way my Pro handled... Definitely, a more than capable off road competitor from the factory.

urban, thanks for posting this last update.

currently mulling over how to upgrade my suspension - either by buying the "comparable" bilstein 6112 setup (comparable to the trd pro setup apparently) for my TRD off road or by forking over for a ICON stage 1 kit.

you say the pro setup is comparable off road to the icon stage 2 you ran in your older truck and that the pro rides better on the street? would you care to expand?.... is the icon setup too harsh for DD?

there is quite a price difference in between both... almost 400 bucks more for ICON when priced out. if off road performance is similar and the TRD pro is better on the street i might go that route considering i put a ton of street miles on my truck before it sees the dirt.

    thanks!

    Hey man,

So most would argue with me that the Icon Stage II is better than the suspension on my Pro and I don't disagree to an extent. The Icon is probably better for extreme off roading, with that said you can't expect a suspension design for off road performance to be too comfortable on the street. I felt that the bilstein suspension is build with that in mind. Knowing that some people want off road capabilities out of their daily drivers with out sacrificing comfort.

When I had my Icons the ride was decent. It wasn't too rough and it wasn't too soft, but you could tell you had an off road suspension. I could feel bumps, pot holes, speed bumps, etc a lot more than stock. I wasn't being thrown off my seat but definately not comfortable. Even just going into my driveway I could feel the road if that makes since. Off road was the same. I believe that comfort is not a key element with a full off roading suspension rather performance is.

For me, my truck is my daily driver with occasional minor to moderate off roading. I know it's a truck and don't expect it to drive like a Cadillac, but I also don't want the ride to feel like I'm in a go kart. The bilsteins are perfect for me. They provide a softer and smoother ride and to me perform as good as my Icons did with the off road driving I do.

If I could do it all over again, I would probably buy a TRD Sport and put the new Bilstein 6112s and 5160s since it would pretty much be the same truck I have for a lot less. My advise to you is get the Bilsteins. This is coming from a guy who put the 5100s and then Icons on my previous Tacoma and missed the 5100s.

    Hope this helps.

thats excellent advice man, makes alot of sense.

definitely appreciate the input, i think 6112 is a good setup on my daily driver.

i've put 12k on the clock in 4 months and i purchased extended warranty coverage up to 125k for that reason - i drive a fair amount daily for work.

i think icons, or a similar mid travel set up would shine when we i go camping out in joshua tree... but with my 3k miles a month scenario in mind it might easily be overkill - i can imagine a stiff setup getting old real fast on the 405 monday-friday. i think a 6112 setup might be a good compromise and the way to go for me!

Looks like they change the back shock remote res hose to rubber on the Pro. My '14 Baja has a braided SS hose.

    Damn you Toyota.
