Right now it's between getting a snorkel or saving for some much needed gears.

My truck needed the snorkel due to the places I was traveling an amount of dirt the filter was getting clogged with. It got outright dangerous when I was on the road trying to accelerate and it would bog down.

I need gears for sure next. That has been a hard pill to swallow. Want the dual air lockers too.

I made a phone call and have someone looking in to a group buy for safaris. They are looking to see if they can include the new one made specifically for the tacomas and the one made for the hilux because I know some like those better because of aesthetics. They said they would get back to me after the weekend, and let me know as soon as they have info. They said a lot of suppliers are super busy right know due to King of the Hammers right now, so they will find info as soon as they can. I was going to wait to post up a GB feeler until I had more info.

I'm in the same boat, as I'm sure many are that have clearanced for 35's, to remedy the intake. Snorkel seems the best route(pun intended). I also would like to see more pics of the new safari, especially of the whole truck from several angles. After reading the thread safari vs airflow that I linked a few posts back, IMHO I think safari is the way to go. It seems more tried and true. Read it for yourself to help decide. There have been a few to chime in about airflow, but what about folks running the safaris. Aside from the install, how has it functioned for everyone?

What.. snorkels are going to function the exact same. Just decide which one you like the looks of more and if a 3 vs 4inch diameter is ever going to matter to you. Otherwise they both work fine.

3" v. 4" matters to anyone who has a 4" intake. Airflow us uglier by far but function > form.

Well if you read that thread you might think a little differently. NYCO had to pull over while driving and disassemble his intake box and dry everything out due to heavy sticky snow that melted into the airflow snorkel. That's not to say it wouldn't have happened to safari. Snorkel heads can be turned around to help prevent this, but airflow has a warning that you cannot drive more than 15 mph when the head is backward due to a possible vacuum which could damage the engine, safari has no such warning. The rams on the two snorkels are definitely different designs. I have not read of any problems with the safaris. Doesn't mean there aren't any just haven't read any. Guys have been running the safaris made for the hilux for longer than the airflow snorkel has been out. Most report no lack of airflow. That said safaris new snorkel should eliminate the smaller diameter piping issue. I just talked to Matt on the phone from ARB USA and he states that they are currently doing extensive testing on the snorkel to make sure everything is good. He said they will have numbers from the dyno in order to back up their research and development of their product. Its not that I'm trying to hate on airflow, I just don't know as much about them. I know safari has been a very reliable company and has made snorkels for many vehicles that have been tried and tested. Maybe airflow is just as good, I'm not sure. Its probably more of a preference I guess. Who knows maybe I will miss out on a better product. Just from everything I have read and seen, my preference is safari. Also some of the folks on here that are running them are a testament to either.

I have read those threads. just saying pick one you like and go with it then. They both work fine and will have the same issues in the same situation being ram fed.

Also I dont think the warning really means anything by it. pretty sure its just a way to cover their ass if something happens. Just like "intended for offroad use only".

Holly shiet the discussion went way OT on Snorkels. Wrong thread for this, however, -> I also had this back and forth. ANY Snorkel will have the same vacuum issue wether they list it or not as mentioned above. There were Dyno results from an airflow somewhere, do not remember where though. Might have been on xrunner forum. Sticky snow will have the same result on any intake. Not just snorkels. If it can suck it in, it will (intakes as a whole).

By your posts, I would definitely say you are more partial to the Safari for whatever reason. Not a bad thing, just an observation. I was too for the longest time. ThenThe look of the AirFlow grew on me. Looks combined with the fact it is/ was the only one available for our trucks really was the final decision for me.

Get whatever YOU like, point is to have the snorkel sucking air from higher up than in the wheel well.

I hope that when the Dyno results are released, there is a major difference in the findings. Doubt it will be, but, never know. Would I switch over to the Safari at that point? Probably not. Something would have to be ground shattering in the results. I am more than happy with my current one and the look has grown on me. Sarari Snorkels really has taken their sweet time on the release of these. I fear might be a little late in the game since 3rd gen is finally being released/ WTF were they thinking?

I wish there were another option. I'm not to keen on the snorkels to begin with. But I more un keen to the idea of flooding my engine just going on a weekend trip to wheel with some friends.

My mustang had a ram air system in it and never showed any gains on dyno that justified what I paid for the system. The only justification I have for a snorkel is truly to keep my intake clean .

Hence the need for an intake high enough to avoid dust. Well, you really just need to get the intake out of the fender well.
