Simply an observation but so far so good on my Napa cv... I kept the old oem as a spare and plan to reboot.

My OEM cv's lasted 270,00. O'Reilly CV 3 months. Wasn't even turning and very little throttle when it broke. Napa for a year now with open diff, 3/4" diff drop and 35" tires, so far so good

I wasn't too keen either but everything seems to be holding fine. Red loctite and staked 'em. I may tear it back apart this weekend to check on them.

Marlin Crawler has a short throw shifter kit as well. They replace the shifter tower instead of adding length to the current shifter. It is more expensive (or requires a core return).

when I had my URD short shifter installed my mechanic tacked the screws so they wouldn't loosen with a pick and hammer method

    Apologies for :deadhorse:
Question for the guys who have them.
    Magnaflow.
18" or 14"? Any difference in sound? 18" looks like a close replacement for stock size dimensions.

    Center/center?
    Center/offset?
    Offset/offset?

Mine (stock) is offset/offset, which I'm sure they all are. Search has revealed that some of you guys are using one or the other. Which one stays tucked above the frame rail the best?

also, to fit the metric sized stock pipe...2.25 or 2.50? I have searched and seen that both sizes have been used....

Not interested in the debate over brand, search has revealed that Magnaflow is the crowd fav. Just want to know what part# fits the best.

12245 and 13745 seem to be popular.

I started with an 18, great sound, kinda loud, had it cut and dumped passed the axle.. bad move as it resonated a ton of sound and vibration back to the cab and i lost low end rpm power but seemed to gain top end.

went to to a 14 cause thats the shop had even though I called to make sure but the owner was wrong. and the 14 was raspy and loud, took it off after 4 days.

I have a 24 inch magnaflow now piped all the way back to the rear bumper area so I do not lose my lower end power and its perfect. Low noise when idle with a nice grumble growl when WOT.

Unless supercharged do not go larger than the stock pipe size, have the shop spread the 2.25 open to sleeve over and welded for best results.

Huge difference. Have driven and been around 3 trucks with the 18 and mine has the 14.

The 18 is great. It's fairly quiet and comfortable but still has a great snarl and rumble to it. Honestly, it's probably the better choice for a dd rig.

Mine is loud as fuck compared to the 18s. It's also older now so I'm sure most of the glass in it is gone. That said, I love it. It is awesome sounding.

Mine is offset/center with it rotated to have the muffler pointed up. It's well above the frame rails. Then I have custom piping that is 2.5" out to a 3" tip that is bent in a way that come inbetween the rear frame and leafs right by the shackle and just barely pokes out. Keeps it out of the way when wheeling and it makes the cabin noise much less vs just dumping it at the axle. Which is good cause it would be way to loud in the cab if mine was dumped.

The 2.5" pipe does cause some interesting effects though. The cool part is it really snarls snaps pops and gurgles especially when you let off the gas. It's fun. But due to loss of back preassure I have had the truck die many times. Usually when coming off high rpms. I've had it happen while going 70mph and just when starting the truck. But it's not a huge problem. The OEM pipe is of course metric so exhaust shops have to do what they can. 2.25 is closer to stock though.

If I was to start modifying me double cab today Id run the 18" probably just because it's the more perfect dd/comfortable/mean sounding type muffler that still sounds great.

The 14 is bitching but it is louder. If you're okay with loud then get it!

If you have no or gutted cats...definitely 18 or larger. 14 can be...on the loud side like Monte said (for first gens).

Micah, Monte and Jason, thank you for the quick replies.
So 18" or bigger for less drone and possibly correct back pressure. Check.
2.25 pipe to retain close to stock dia. Check.
A little extra sound volume won't bother me, excessive drone most likely will but I expect a little.

I still have stock, single, cat, un-molested by me.
I remember your pics ,Jason, from a week ago, the thread moves so fast i couldn't find it of course. Looks great!

And good to know about the drone effect by dumping right behind axle vs. running out the back or the side. I'll prolly keep the axle dump for now, and extend it out the side if it proves too annoying.

    Thanks guys!

I went with the 18" on mine sounds stock idiling but when you mash the throttle it is still throaty sounds nice. Used to have a 14" on my 2.7 and it sounded like shit so I took it off as soon as I got it

18" here, dumped after the axle. Very nice sound when I'm on it, almost silent when I'm not or when cruising. Center/center, 2.5". This give you the most tuck up out of the way. Will require a slight "s" tube in the front so it is up high and lines up. Part #11246.

Don't have a pic of the front but here's one from behind.

No prob. I'd post pics but I'm headed out the door. Should be hyperlinked though in the op of my build if you want to see.

Interesting, any problems using 2.5"? Obviously it's just the section through the muffler. Does retaining stock diameter pipe fore and aft keep the backfires and the snapping/popping down to a minimum using a larger diameter muffler?
I ask because 2.5" is in stock at a few places here but 2.25" is not. Also seems easier to slip over and weld up.

thats fine too, just keep 2.25 piping and you'll be good.

That was the reason for going with 2.5". No downsides that I can see. The pipe before and after is still stock so loss of back pressure due to the 2.5" size seems unlikely.

Perfect. Further research shows from the website that the "core" is 2.5" regardless of 2.25 or 2.5 in/out. So apparently there should be no difference in back pressure between the two. If I'm understanding what they are meaning by "core".

Thank you guys for all your help!

That was the inchworm e-locker actuator skid plate I had back when I had an e-locker. It wasn't a diff diaper.
