I'm wondering if anybody has noticed that there are little plastic hooks made to hold the floor mat back away from the pedal. Are people not installing the hooks? Are the hooks breaking? I have 2 sets of these hooks since i bought the accesory all weather tacoma mats. I always make sure my mats are hooked up so they dont slide forward. i haven't seen any mention of these no slip hooks in any post ,or in the recall notice.

Shows what you know. If you tried to wack off a Beaver it would bite you in the hand. Ordered my WeatherTech front floor liners today. $150 CDN shipped. I'll figure out the clutch pedal issue when I get them.

Personally, I think the news announcement from Toyota is a way to cover their asses. Remove the drivers side floor mat? Why? If it was installed correctly in the first place, it won't be a problem. If you removed it and reinstalled it, then the onus is on you to make sure it's re-installed correctly.

So the guy is a CHP officer supposedly trained in automotive safety. He runs a car off the end of a freeway at 120mph because the accelerator is stuck? Conveniently he has time to call 911 and explain the situation. Maybe he did it on purpose as a bizarre murder suicide plot.

I only suggest this as a possibility because I read the news regularly and stranger things have happened. It wasn’t too long ago that a famous actor was found dead with a rope around his sack.

I think they are trying to appear to be doing something to address the unexpected acceleration problem, and while I think floor mats might have been responsible for some of the incidents, I am certain they were not the source of the unexpected acceleration episode I experienced. I have verified the part number of the floor mat is correct for my truck and the mounting clips are connected to the floor and the mats. I was sitting at a red light with MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE when my truck went to full throttle on its own. I believe there is a problem with the accelerator drive by wire setup and they are refusing to address it because no error codes are generated when it happens. After they get done checking everyone's floor mats there will still be incidents of unexpected acceleration occurring. Why they would allow the computer to maintain a full throttle while the brakes are engaged is a mystery to me.

I’m just saying things are not always what they seem. At least half the respondents to this thread think it is inconceivable that an accelerator stuck down by a mat could cause them to be killed. I had a car accelerate once and immediately concluded it was the floor matt. I simply reached down and moved the mat back. Anyway the NTSB will get to the bottom of this mystery in a week or two.

    Yes.

My best guess as to what happened with the crash is that the dealer threw the new rubber mats on top of the already installed regular mats. I tried this to see if it would work when I first got my new rubber mats but concluded they might interfere with the pedals.

Relax CrowBoy, no one is telling you what to do or say or how to "Feel". I'm just asking for people to read first before they jump to conclusions and say things that may or may have not happened.
I'm more disappointed at the other person that I quoted vs what you said.

But It's good to hear how you feel bad for a little boy or girl that won't see their parents and how bad that is for them. Unfortunately their little girl was in the car and died with them. I'm not sure if they have any other kids but I feel bad for them too and hope the best for them and for all of their family members.

As far as the vehicle was malfunctioning electronically, your right. There is not a lot you can do with that when It's going 120 miles per hour. Like I mentioned in my previous post, we just don't know enough at this time all of what was going on with the car or what everyone was doing.

But I'm glad we can both agree on not giving him or his family any disrespect.

I'm still trying to see any truth to this. I rolled the mat around and such, my stock cloth one has to be unhooked to even make the twists or rolls. It looking like the mat is blamed because its the closest thing and they "heard of this before". My house is in grave danger of speeding off , I have 3 throw rugs near the laundry room.

Put a rubber mat on top of the regular mat and maybe move it forward a bit. I bet you can hook the accelerator pedal with this setup. If not then try the wrong rubber mat that is a little longer.

LOL. That was an episode of CHiP's back in the day. Only everybody lived of course and Ponch and John were heroes.

The root of the problem is probably people putting floor mats on top of floor mats. Like if they have carpet mats to begin with then throw rubber mats over the top, or vice versa.

Haven't had this problem, I keep the little hook's in my mat all the time. The reason for the accident was the guy had a mat over his factory one which was attached to the hooks so the mat that got wedged under the pedal was not OEM. I beleive the vehicle was a prius

Do Canadian Tacos have floor mats? Or just hay spread out on the floor.
