Limited Service Campaign for Corrosive Resistant Compound

Explain something to me. Why are you guys leaving your trucks for months and months while the dealers are waiting for parts to arrive. Wouldn't it have been better to drive away and have the dealership call you when they had everything they needed?

What am I missing here?

 

Thanks, I'm sure the following would be useful info if you can find it while you are having yours done ....

- Performed at Dealer or at an Undercoating shop (Name?).

- The Actual coating used if possible (Name, maker of product, Chemical name?)

- Did they Prep your Truck ? Power wash underneath/ Rust removal/ etc.

- Did they "Tent" the truck to prevent overspray ?

- Coating type? Dries hard or stays tacky, etc.

- Coating just the frame???

Depending on what state you live in....and if your frame rust is bad enough... The dealership will inspect the frame and they could render the vehicle 'unsafe' to drive - so therefore, they keep the truck and give a loaner vehicle.

I live in Pennsylvania where vehicle safety inspections are done yearly. Theoretically, the frame could fail (by Pennsylvania law) and they would have a legal obligation to keep it off the road. However - if you passed the year before and all of a sudden, it's too bad to pass? That's where it becomes 'weird'.

 

Robby, I have been told alot of trucks need new body mount bushings, in addition to upper/lower control arm bushings.
I just bought a Energy Suspension master kit that includes body, supension,etc bushings for $336 shipped from Summit racing.

 

I'll try to scan my invoice for ya, but when mine was replaced they didn't say a word about bushings...

 

Wow. OK, thanks. Good to know. My dealer said mine was OK and to bring it back in the spring to get the undercoating done. I think I would have been pissed if I took it in there and found out I couldn't leave with it.

 

From some of the invoices post herein - they show "parts kits" or "packages" that may contain these. You'd need to get the kit numbers and look up the contents ....

 

Just tried that, seems like they keep it pretty tight lipped lol. You can buy the kits practically anywhere though.

 

just picked up my 05 TRD O/R after having the coating applied...the service guy said my truck was "the best he had seen" when they did the inspection/test. I have always sprayed my frame with Krown from a can myself...so it must work! There were some 08's getting new frames, yet I just qualified for the black goo. I'm in Ottawa Ontario Canada...lots of road salt.
They had my truck for 2 days, and gave me a 2015 Corolla to drive...pretty weird driving a small car for a change.
I'm going outside now to see if they removed my spare for the treatment...forgot to check!

 

yup...spare was removed...from what I can see from a quick glance under there (its frickin freezing outside right now) it looks like they did an excellent job with the coating! Will look more thoroughly when it warms up!

 

Had mine coated in December. Damn things are still wet.

I need to get this fixed. They did no prep work and sprayed over mud even.

 

Man, that is a nasty job. I'd just forward those to Corp Customer service and and ask for a resolution ..... At Least you may save a later customer from this...

 

I called the dealer, Jordan Toyota @ Mishawaka Indiana. Their response was "We have had several customers complain about the application process and the coating not drying. Toyota has been notified and we are awaiting a resolution path."

That's terrible... it'd be the last Toyota I ever owned if it was mine. Good luck with a resolution.

 

Yeah I just emailed Toyota directly.

I had the frame on my 07 done back in Sept.
A few weeks ago I had to add air to the spare tire and that coating was still to tacky to touch!
4 days later I traded it in on a 2015 OR
If I was in the market for a used Taco, I would run from any truck that had been coated.

So I got my truck back last week. Originally picked it up on Wednesday Feb 11 around 430 PM. Truck was back at the dealer around 515. Upon pick up my truck was parked around the side of the dealer, i walked in service person traded keys with me for my loaner. I went outside took a look at the truck and took a quick peek underneath, everything seemed in order. I get in it drive the 15 miles home, rip the stock bumper off the put my relentless bumper back on the front, I crawl under to start bolting it up and see a puddle of gear oil under the front diff and fluid all over the under carriage. Promptly rig my bumper up and drive back to the dealer fuming. Walk in to dealer ask for service manager and explain to him that had I needed to throw my truck in 4wd on the way home for any reason and had I grenaded my front diff this wouldn't be so pleasant. They give me back the loaner and apologize for the inconvenience.

Feb 12, get a call around noon stating the truck is fixed and ready to go. Upon pick up after work the service guy states the tech said the left front diff seal didn't seat properly(something they would've caught had they properly test driven the truck after completion and put it back on a lift to inspect). So I have my truck back, now I had an exhaust leak prior to dropping it off originally at the rear of my muffler. Since pick up it sounds like i have an open header under my cab. Crawl underneath and find that the union where the two piece y-pipe meets on the passenger side has no crush to seal gasket or bolts in it and the two flanges are just freely leaking. It looks like to bolts were taken out and just not installed again. So that required a second trip back on Tuesday after work to have that fixed.

Now it has been arctic cold on Long Island the past week and this is what I've found wrong so far. I'm a little worried what I'm going to find when I can get the truck into my buddies shop and on a lift or when the temp finally breaks above freezing and I crawl underneath her in my driveway.

All this said I'm just glad to have MY truck back. It rides quite a bit better and the fact that it has a frame that doesn't look like swiss cheese is a plus. Good luck to all and I hope my experience so far is not the norm for everyone else. Will post more updates as the temperatures brake and if I find any other issues. GLTA
