Dented my bumper pulling out my plow truck. Tow strap broke and sent the shackle holding 2 straps together right into the back of the tacoma. Oh well, other side had a small dent when I bought it and it gives me an excuse to either replace it or buy some plate and bust out the welder when it gets warmer.

Which is why I never carry tow straps with hooks. I always have the straps with loops sewn on each end for just that reason.

    I don't have a bumper.. yet - I also realized I fat fingered the 886... I have the 885's.

you shouldn't join 2 straps with a shackle. As you found out the shackle becomes a missile that can kill.

Wednesday this week I replaced my right front wheel bearing assembly. I learned the hard way! but it started making excesses tire noise, than on my way to work it started to feel on hard pavement like it does when your on a dirt road with washboard. So I took the day off, stopped buy the Toyota dealership and bought the bearing $189.00 and the seal $22.00. Got home pulled the bearing and hub off, I realized than that my basic bearing press could most likely press the new bearing onto the old hub. But really couldn't figure out how to press the old bearing off the hub! Time was critical as I had to be up and running for work the next day. So the only place close enough to do the press work was Toyota, so back there so they could press the old bearing off and press the new bearing and seal back on, the giged me for one hour shop fee $70.00 and a disposal fee $5.00 and change, and I needed a new little o-ring that goes on the bottom of the bearing hub assemebly. Toyota charged me $9.97 for that o-ring. So as I left there holding my ass pocket for the tune of $96.00 dollars, I swore that would never happen again. Went home and put it all back together in about an hour, including picking up all tools and cleaning up. Already talked to Bill / Bamatoy about purchasing one of his pre-assembled 4x4 bearing hub assemblies for the left front some time soon!
