    is 225 really that hard? me and my football buddies all can bench 225 at least once back in high school and most of us never lifted a weight in our life.

    225 was my max when I finished my first highschool wrestling season as a freshmen. I was about 135 then

    It was a pretty big deal for me.

    315 was another big moment for me. I got that while I was deployed and around 190lbs. I have since stopped worrying about numbers.

    For bench, 185, 225, and 275 were big deals to me :D

    But that was back in the day of football :D I never broke 275.

    I hit 315 about 8 years ago and even though I can hit it every time now, it still always feels heavy. Its a mental reminder and I think a lot of that is true at a younger age. You dont know what your body can handle and so you think a certain number (225,315,405 etc.) is going to crush you.

    The pound for pound strongest guys are always going to be the lighter guys.

    That is why I recommend overshooting your numbers once a month or so. Putting 10% over max and unracking it and just holding it there getting to know what it feels like.

    225 was a big deal when I hit it but over time it got easier and easier until I was maxing out at 315. Then I used 135 x 15 as a warm up and then jumped up to 225 as my first set. I haven't even tried flat bench since my surgery. Figure I'll just stick with the dumbbells for now, up to 85's now for bench and 75's for shoulder presses. Still don't have enough movement yet for traditional squats so still doing the front squats as an alternative. I have a lot of strength back in my shoulder, it's just getting all my movement back.

    Yea...315 is the next big deal for me. I haven't tried since I got 300 a couple months ago. I'll probably max before I start my cut in 6 weeks just to see where I'm at.
