Is there a HAM radio thread on here? I wonder if there is more interest though out the site.

Are you trying to tell me to keep my HAM BS off the Colorado BS thread? :p

There is a HAM thread. Probably not welcome as I don't have my license yet.

Odomandr just got his license. I'm trying to start a Colorado revolution here!

Lead, follow or get out of the way

    Here's a TW thread
    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/sports-hobbies-interests/260643-amateur-ham-radio-bs-callsign-thread.html

    Here's a study guide
    http://www.hamradiolicenseexam.com/index.html

Pretty simple stuff. Probably ~$15 to take a test for tech license to be legal.

Based on what I've tried with my baofeng setups, there's a little, but not a whole lot to be gained over CB for radio to radio communications using the baofengs but they're dirt cheap and can get you going.
The real kicker is when you hit a repeater. Then your range is essentially limitless as far as I understand it. The right repeaters I think, put transmissions out over the internet that are broadcast by other repeaters so you can communicate around the world.
Might be real handy in an emergency for sure.

I have to get off my butt and go get my license here soon.

I'm looking to get my ham license here soon as well.

though I don't know if I can make happen before Moab, as I've got two weeks of training, as well as a move to contend with first.

I literally bought a book last weekend and read it before bed then took the exam this weekend. App on my tablet with some practice questions.Hamradioschool.comhas some good practice too. Not a lot to get a tech license. qrz.com is good to explore too
