Ram Air CAI For hood Scoop Hoods?

    Cool pics! You said the wheel well is a high pressure area yet on those 2 pics the wheel wells look like low pressure. Is that due to the wheels not spinning?

    LOL!! Good to hear. :) I understand why many people dont get it. They like to think the air sticks to the side of the vehicle at every point. If it DID.......That would screw up ALOT of things we have today. :)

    Give it a shot, and get some dyno numbers to back it up and it will $$SELL. There is enough pressure on the scoop to make it work IMHO. Just have a bypass valve when its raining/snowing etc...I'd buy one if you can prove on some sort of calibrator that is telling me the Air mixture/force that its better than the fender.

    Why bust the guys balls..yota put the thing on there and its all for looks?

    BTW, volant makes a scoop for the front...anyone have numbers on that force?

    You ARE kidding...Right? The stock scoop only sticks up 2" or less.....The low pressure area bubbles up about a foot before it reattaches.

    No. But why would the aerodynamics of it be better than a car? I HAD info on amid size truck, and the reattachment point is at the case of the windshield....however, I inadvertantly deleted it.

    I guess i'm just wanting to BELIEVE that it could work :D. Honestly, I probably wouldn't hack up my hood, I'd go supercharger and call it a day.

    First, those scoops are further back on the hood than the ones on our trucks, and Second, its a car. Better aerodynamics than a truck.

    Its the Volant with the scoop or the URD. TRD CAI does not sit infront of the Radiator

    The other thing that is missing from this equation is the actual differential in pressure disturbing the laminar flow caused by an active scoop or vent; With an active hood scoop, the engine would cause a low pressure region (depending upon vehicle speed and manifold pressure). For those without a wind tunnel at their disposal, you can use the tuft method of seeing laminar/turbulent flow around your truck.

    Here's a pic of how it might look and here is a link to how you can do a full-sized experiment on your truck.

    I used water drops on the hood. I felt they were more accurate than the tuft method, as the strings are taped to the hood/vehicle, they can only move certain ways. The water drops were free to move any direction. Im not a rocket scientist, though, so my method could be flawed. :eek:

    I still think if your really in to hood scoops buy one of these:

    With a 426 pumping air through the hood scoop, it may actually strip the paint off the front of the hood! ;)
