I think the 5D mk4 will be the more rounded camera that general photographers are looking for. The 50mp 5Ds seems to be more of a niche, stills, studio set up.

x2! Cuda2k the color is outstanding in that parachute/sky shot.

Great perspective in that hammers shot too from above!

@onewheeldrive is that under an overpass or something? Really nice.

Yup Mk 4 is later this year, or so I've read. This 5Ds is a niché for certain pros who will love it. There's tons of people bashing it because it's not what they would use haha congratulations, there are other people in the world . . .

Does any one have any awesome articles or tips for shooting at night? This weekend is suppose to be really nice so I am going to try and camp out. I haven't done much night shooting since the summer so I want to refresh a bit.

What are you shooting in particular? Night landscapes? Or people and/or that pup of yours?

If shooting subjects like your pup then simply a faster lens, higher ISO and keep an eye on your SS to avoid blur.

For scapes and start trails and whatnot, talk to Monte and some of these guys for long exposure stuff. Concept is simple enough, bring a tripod, etc. But they can probably chime in with more fine tune tips and tricks they've found that work for them.

Well..it's not hard haha basically all you need is a tripod as your shutter speeds will be way slow.

Depending on what your doing and what time of night and the phase of the moon that'll effect stuff. For a star capture that shows the night sky I find tha f2-f4 ISO1250 with 15-20-25-30sec shutter to get what I want. Then keeping the same setting for light painting.

A lot of it is just simple trail and error though to dial it in.

Having a remote helps to too trigger the shitter so you don't have to touch it.

If you want a spiral photo and don't have an intervalometer to do photo stacking. Then try f4 iso400 and bulb mode for at least 45 mins.

This article was a good start for me. Think murph gave it too me a long time ago.

Focus is huge too and hard to get. The easiest is to focus on the sun before it sets then flip to manual focusing and tap the focus ring to keep it from moving.

Pre planning helps a lot too. The moon phase is huge and when sun set is and moon rise and set.

What kinda shots you goin for??

What those guys said are right on. Just go out there with the fastest lens you have and a good tripod.

I love night shots! I just had someone finally buy one too! Just saw it on my facebook and offered to buy it in aluminum!

Here are a few of my fav.

How do you get the results of pics 1,2 and 3?

Is it just one picture or several long exposures?

    :D

Ill be getting shots of the tent with the stars in the background. When the stove is fired up it will shoot sparks out the chimney and should make for a sweet shot. Then I will probably do a few landscapes as well.

I have done them before with good luck. Just looking for some things to refresh my memory and properly plan. Such as locking the focus ring with tape. I would have forgot to do that had you not mentioned it.

    Oh that'll be cool!

I'd do stacking if your going that route. Which I'm sure you know how to do in ps. I'd work on your foreground shot with the tent lot up from the inside maybe light paint outside some stuff. Then when it's pitch black with no fire going at all do the stars.

    Ok cool, thanks man!

I'll just have to get as far as possible from any light pollution I imagine.

Kinda what I was planning. Should be a fun night though! I think it's going to be just shy of a half moon when I go out. Could make a sweet picture if I get the moon above the tent though.

I like to focus on a bright star with live view if your camera has it. Zoom in 10x and aquire focus. You can use a distant mountain before the sun sets and then switch to MF like mentioned above. For close subjects like your tent and camp, I tend to use the AF of the camera. You can set up your camera, use a bright flashlight or headlights on the subject and let the camera AF on the subject. Then switch to MF. Like Monte said, it may take a few different exposures and you'll find the best settings. Good luck and have fun!
