Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
His salary, for having the coolest job on earth... Is over 1 million dollars a year.. I think the risk is acceptable. :) Although I would miss that guy..

Besides. No modern truck would survive the fire in the cab, the ocean, and its possible that the tree in the beginning would be the end of some.. :)

I would too. If I could just bring the one I drive here, and keep it forever in the states.. Life would be perfect. :)

If people in US wanted car like pickups Honda Ridgeline would have been #1 in small pickups. Honda was thinking that people need car like pickups and look how miserably they failed.

Honda made a pickup LIKE car. See El Camino.. that is I mean, car with pickup features.

People now want a car LIKE pickup. which is I mean, a pickup with car features

What do those car like futures supposed to be ? Because if :

-soft ride (Honda Ridgeline had thatm they even installed IFS in the rear)
-great mpg (3.5 L V6 yup Honda had that)
-lots of comfort items (yup power seats, leather, moon roof, heated mirrors, all was in Ridgeline)

No it didn't. Ever look at the MPG on a Ridgeline? It's slightly worse than a 4.0L Tacoma by EPA standards and from what I've heard real-world driving is actually even worse than that.

I think they failed by making it fugly. The concept is good and I am sure they would have sold a lot more if it looked better. They have now redesigned it and we should see it soon - hopefully for Honda this generation will be more to the people's liking as far as looks go.

Here is a great comparison...not as different as one would think.

They do say the devil is in the details though. I want that frame...

    Link

I have seen HiLuxes up close and personal...they are pretty much the same size as Tacomas, you can jump on the Australian site and compare the size...not that much different.

The Ridgeline, which I drove one for awhile while a friend was deployed to take care of her vehicle....

-Definitely did not get better gas mileage.
-Has all of the features people want EXCEPT it does not Look like a truck.
    -Can't tow for shit
-has NO bottom end. More power but gutless bottom end
-has zero ground clearance, no ability to lift it more than a minivan.. only fits small tires, no other features of a truck people want
-has a cool ass trunk in the bed.
-its not 4wd.. not sure that matters since many don't know the difference
-also had a tailgate that opened sideways like a door or down like a tailgate.

    Yes, it
-has a 3.5 liter engine. From a car, and a minivan, and an suv thing. And shared family with the nsx.. basically one of Honda's favorite v6 engines.
    -had lots of stuff.
    -had a tiny bed

They want a truck, with car features... Looks, shows, has truck numbers and capability but rides, performs, and is fuel efficient like a car with all the creature comforts close at hand.

Honda built a giant crossover car/suv put a tiny bed on it and called it a truck. Why the hell wouldn't it fail? Front wheel drive, with an automatic all wheel drive that sends power to the rear as needed. Unibody. IRS, IFS. and fucked up SUV styling.. The only thing TRUCK on it was the bed. And at 4 feet, with a terrible wind current. It was useless.

the size difference is minimal. But it is there. And the difference is only 2nd gen and up.

I'll have to take back that they still offer the HiLux as a bare bones model...I see the lowest grade 4WD comes with power windows among other things now.

I am not crazy about the 3rd looks, they did a great job on the interior tho'

Toss up on the HiLux and 2nd gen....I like 'em both.

    Bucking the trend here....

I actually LIKE the new Hilux front end MUCH better than the 2016 Taco. But, likely never have the opportunity to buy one. :D

Re: the Honda Ridgeline. Owned two of them and only miss the trunk in the bed and the comfortable highway ride. Horrible gas mileage; LOTS of wind/road noise; no ground clearance, so no off-roading; antiquated electronics; lots of evidence of cost cutting. Yada, yada.

Still, there are a bunch of Ridgeline supporters out there praying for a new generation from Honda.

I know several people with Ridgelines. For what they do (moving awkward things occasionally but usually just driving it like they would a car), I'm sure it's fine. I'll admit the in-bed trunk is cool and a lot bigger than I thought it would be once I saw it first hand.

I did notice the outdated electronics, though. The standard headunit from a 2014 is still a monochrome one line display!

Bingo. They want to look like they're rough and tough without actually having to experience any discomfort or inconvenience what so ever.

I know the Hilux is the sacred cow among Toyota fans but I definitely think the Tacoma looks better. The Hilux looks soft, like a ball of cookie dough.

I think the Tacoma looks better for gen 2. Gen 1 is very little difference so its a tossup. And gen 3, I like the much more modest look of the hilux better than the poser style restaurant flair on the new taco
