San Antonio Wrench/ Mod meet October 10th

They are really expensive at the dealership. Most people are getting them from an army surplus store online and drilling the hole in the bracket to accommodate the bolt the is already there.

I was thinking that I could check with my buddy & just buy the d-rings & the bolts so that nothing had to be modified. I guess I will check anyways & see how much it would cost to go that route. If not I had better get on the ball & order the rings from the Army surplus place your talkin about.

 

Alright I am with you guys now, how many total rings did you add Drew?

 

I added 4 in the back, but I think I am going to do 2 more in the front at the mod day. I only did the rears before because I thought my truck box would cover the front bolts, but I measured and it won't.

The 4 in the rear were PERFECT for strapping down my huge cooler last weekend!

 

I will be adding 6 myself. 2 front, 2 mid, and 2 in the rear. Biggest thing that I need help with is cutting my bed mat. I think my bed mat is almost 3/8" thick!!! It was a real pain cutting out the back for the stock D-Rings.

Yeah, I think that I will go with your source instead of the dealer, Best price I can get there is $14 for ring & bolt, only avaliable together & the bolts are not long enough to use in place of the bed bolts.

Yeah, plus I trust the strength of the bed bolts more because they go into the frame.

 

I am going to see if I can make a couple of bushings to go between the plate & the bolt so that these things can rotate 360 deg. like the 2 factory ones. I am thinking that we can just drill the hole out a little bigger & basicly machine a washer that fits over the bolt inside & inside the d-ring plate outside & of course a couple tousands taller that the plate. I may have done a bad job spitting that out but it makes since in my head.


edit, that would mean that we would have to cut the head of the bolt all of the way around. dooouuuuh

 

I know what you mean, it's a pretty cool idea.

The biggest drill bit I have is just the right size for the bed bolt, so you might need to bring some bits to pull that off. That or predrill them in the machine shop.

I think I like my stationary ones just fine, though.

 

I could do this mod at the shop & make it work, I would need to pull the bolts (1 or 2 at a time) & put them in a lathe & turn the heads down, make the bushings & drill the plates. No problem.

I am not sure that I want to cut holes in my bed mat that are big enough for them to spin all the way around tho.

If you like yours then i will prob. just not worry about it.
