So my Toyota dealer ordered and received a Trail Edition Premium with KDSS for me. Priced around 37500.

My complaint with the Tacoma is that its a rough ride, interior is junky, and just not comfortable. The 4Runner fixed all those issues, but didnt have a bed.

So, did I make the right choice keeping my 13 TX Baja? Or should I still look at that 4Runner for the "long haul." Wife says if I buy it I have to promise to keep it for 5 years and not something else because Im tired of it.

We should drive a Tacoma, our wife's should drive 4 Runners. I have done the no truck thing from time to time in my life and there were so many times I needed a truck, never again.

If interior quality and ride are what's most important to you but you like the bed too, I feel there are better options than either the Taco or 4Runner, ESPECIALLY for $37k. I'd be looking at fullsize trucks. Dodge and Ford are on top of their game right now.

    "Happy wife, happy life."

Trail edition 4R's are super sick... And the interiors are really nice.

4Runner is a fantastic vehicle and I would not hesitate to own one. But if I could only have one, Tacoma, hands down. You could mod the Taco anyway you want and in 2 years change it to something else. Not going to do that with the T4R. As for the long haul thing, Yeah right babe, anything you say.

Sadly, you're probably right about Dodge being at the top of their game. I still wouldn't touch one of their trucks though

Are you sure we aren't married to the same person?

I had a Tacoma and thought I wanted the luxury. I traded the Tacoma for a loaded Highlander Limited. My wife now drives the Highlander and I have an FJ. I really didn't need the Tacoma since I have a trailer and it is way nicer to haul stuff in it. The only downside is if you need to haul something you have to plan ahead. I don't drive around all the time with my trailer.

Really it will come down to how much you use the bed of the truck.

Yep...that's what goes on over here. Wife in 4Runner; me in Tacoma. Everybody is happy.

I can't imagine not having a pickup style vehicle. Comes in handy.

I like everything about the 4Runner, except for the (lack of) bed. I was really hoping the new Tacoma would've used a 4Runner-style suspension with some sort of multi-link arrangement, but they didn't.

I think the whole issue comes down to what you use the truck for. How often do you carry things that you'd never want inside your vehicle?

remember guys even if we don't haul anything we all have that one truckless friend that needs help moving:D

I also back that if you give up the truck you will kick yourself whenever you need one.

I'd trade my Tacoma for a 4Runner Trail in a second!

But, I do use my bed frequently, but I also have a trailer, so I could of went with the 4 runner. But I wanted a Tacoma this time around. Next vehicle will be a 4 Runner.

I've got a cycle going on, Car, Truck, Car, Truck. Don't think I want another car, so maybe SUV, Truck cycle going on.

I tried the sequoia and no truck for a few years. Trailers fill the void, but you have to store them. Tundra rides way better than taco, crewmax 4x4 sr5 can be done for your price. Test drives are free! Give it a whirl.

That is always a hard choice between 4Runner and Tacoma. I am a truck guy all the way, but SUV's do offer nicer interiors. I only haul occasionally, but find it convenient to beat up a truck bed instead of a SUV interior.

Maybe wait until you ride in the 2016 Tacoma. Hopefully the quality of the interior matches the 4runners and you'll have the best of both!

    That's one sexy driveway @Beavis0076

I agree with everyone, 4runner to me is the best wife/mom/kid hauler/family car.

Saving for a house, but down the line my dream driveway has my tx baja, a 4runner, and a frs for weekend fun.

No one can answer your question for you, as there a pile of things to consider. All we can do is pretty much share what we've done and are doing.

For years (as in 30) I had a very nice compact trailer that I fabbed out of an old boat trailer. Had 13" wheels from a Vega, kept the tilt function, etc. It would haul anything our smaller Tacomas would, no insurance, only a tag an occasional used tires for cost.

After getting the kids out of the house, their cars and college all done, we evolved to a used budget grade sports car, a new Highlander and a well used, but good condition, Sonoma, just two drivers. So each vehicle was 'specialized' so to speak. Loved the combo of things. (trailer was gone) That lasted around 8 years.

Now have the same Highlander w/100k and it still fulfills it's original purpose quite well. Sports car is gone. Last October picked up the '13 Tacoma and gave away the Sonoma.

I'm content with 2 multi purpose vehicles. I can actually haul some items in the Highlander that I could not in the truck, (no topper) if I wanted weather protection (and I often do) Of course I haul stuff in the truck I'd never put in the Highlander...........

But if I had $40 large to drop on wheels, it wouldn't be to replace either of those. It would be to re-add a sports car or street rod :D

Just recently went through this. I actually needed a truck, but had a 5th Gen 4Runner. I am flipping houses and was constantly loading the back of my T4R with paint/lumber/plumbing/electrical/landscape stuff. Eventually got a small trailer, but got tired of towing that thing around. I did a personal needs assessment and determined that a Taco was the vehicle that would fulfill all the tasks required by ME. Only you know your habits/wants/needs.
