lets say I had some body parts (hood, grill and bumper) not on my truck that I brought to a paint shop and wanted them to match as best they could my swb color. I already know it wont be a perfect match and it being a metallic color makes it even worse, and that's ok, but my question is how much difference would it make if the parts were on the truck or off of it for paint to match within 90%?

I'm no painter, but I dont think it will matter at all unless you're blending the nearby panels. If not, then I'd just drop the parts at the shop and pick them up when they're done. In all likelyhood, if they're installed, the shop will probably remove them to spray and cure them anyway.

You have the advantage of not doing fenders. When fender color is off from the door, you really notice the difference. hoods are much more forgiving because the eye does not have a big panel to compare with. Same goes for bumpers.

Shouldn't matter, a decent paint shop will scan the paint on your truck and make it match.

thanks for the replies! yeah I would not do fenders, just hood/grill/bumper. I think those parts have different enough angles/joins that it wouldn't be that obvious.

I just didn't know if it would make a difference to the shade color or not if the parts were on the truck as opposed to off of it.

finding a decent paint shop may take some work tho.
