Here's a pic of mine on Zach's Caprac system:

    IMG_6222_e72791a8ca71a5d8ae9f1a85b13d9057e81d0170.jpg

My Cap is a Leer 100XQ but the principle is the same. The integrated Thule rail system and stock crossbars were fine initially.
The advantage of this PrInSu rack is that it increases the amount of mounting fasteners to the rails and also lowers the mounting by a couple inches.
As for weight - I never gave it a second thought.
I'll wheel all day with that anchor up there with zero worries. ;)

    Yup! I love this thing.

    Now I gotta complain.
I've complained before, but my problems continue.
The materials are awesome. Overbuilt and absolutely lives up to the ruggedized name. The canvas and stitching are flawless, the diamondplate is one hell of a lot stronger than my buddy's CVT tin foil frame.
My issue is the people that put this together. 4th or 5th time sleeping in it and this weekends findings:
The nylock nuts that hold the tent poles to the frame fell off and I had to put my own on with loctite. No clue where the molded black plastic one went, and it had fallen off once already.
A rubber bump pad fell off the ladder, which won't collapse without both attached. Put it back on twice, the third time I had to cut up a beer can to mcguiver a washer so the thing will stay on but we'll see how long that lasts and hope I find it next time it falls off.
A nylock nut holding the ladder to the tent fell off, making the ladder inoperable. I found this in the dirt next to the rubber bump off the ladder thank God. I got pissed that I paid this much for shit to fall apart on me so I took my wrenches to every single nut on the tent and found most If not all nuts and bolts were loose, some backed out about ready to fall out.
Between this, breaking the ladder strap buckle the 2nd time I used it and the other crap I've complained about, I really hope you have a long and pissed off conversation with whoever you outsource the bolting together part to. I figure I'd have to tighten stuff up someday, but damnit I shouldn't be losing parts that just fall off this soon.

Rant over, and I'd still absolutely buy another one given the chance. I just don't want to see your reputation sink cause your manufacturers are in a hurry and/or screwing you up. I'm confident after tightening everything , all I'll have to deal with for the next couple years is the broken buckle.

CVT sent me a new travel cover today. Should be here by the end of the week :woot: The zipper on the original broke the second time I used it...they've since switched to YKK zippers so hopefully that won't happen again.

While not as much, I had similar happen to me. I had a friend come over to help me pick the tent up off the old rack so I could build the new one. We grabbed the tent, lifted, and one of the rails stayed on the rack, the other was holding on by one VERY loose bolt. I could tell by the damage to the threads of the bolts, and the holes on the bottom of the tent that it had been like that for a while, luckily I caught it when I did, before the last on finished coming out and the thing ended up on the freeway somewhere. I've since replaced those with new stainless bolts, and used deformed nuts instead of nylocks in the tracks. I'm going to have to check out the rest of the hardware and consider replacing it all if anything else is loose.

That said, I would and have suggested that everyone replace the 8 bolts and nuts that hold the rails to the tent, and the tent to your rack.

I few of the nuts and bolts on my tent shook loose after a while too. I just kinda figured it goes with the territory :notsure: I spend a lot of time on bumpy dirt roads, somethings bound to shake loose sooner or later from the vibrations. I didn't think it was a big deal, just do a little "maintenance" on the tent and tighten things down once in a while.

Loctite wouldn't work in some areas. Most of the nuts are the self locking type. And the poles are fastened with screws - nothing there but the plastic bracket and the aluminum tent pole.

Sorry man that you had issues. But just so you are aware, there was a batch of the tents that seemed to have issues with the nylocks. The buckles have also been raised as a concern. I'm not sure how the rubber bump on the ladder makes it unable to collapse, but maybe send me a pic or two of that and I'll see what you're dealing with so we can address it.

Back to the other stuff, Tepui has taken action to fix those issues at the factory and we are using Loctite on all the nuts (even though they have been nylocks) and the buckles have been changed on the strap for the ladder and also the Velcro straps that hold the tent closed have been changed to use buckles so that there is no longer a risk of the velcro wearing out over time.

Thank you for the feedback. This is important stuff to hear and we want to provide the best product possible and we try to address these types of things as quickly as possible and I think we have taken the steps needed to fix the issues you mentioned. If there are other things you'd like to discuss, feel free to post up or contact me directly and I'll help you get them sorted out.

I must be lucky but I haven't had any issues with my Tepui since I bought it. And it certainly hasn't been babied. My 2 year old jumps around in it and everything and we are yet to have something break, other than the thin floor when I knocked it on some steel in the garage. Completely happy and satisfied.

Mine have been the same. I think I'm using my tents as hard as anyone and I haven't had any issues. To me that points to what we suspected was just a batch that had some bad nuts etc. Again, apologies to anyone that has had that, but rather than just write it off as a bad batch and do nothing about it, Tepui has taken steps to avoid those issues in the future.

Yep. It's always a good idea to check them periodically and tighten stuff down even if you have Loctite on them. Just about everything requires a little maintenance.

I know I am not a Taco, but I have got my RTT and am loving it. Did a great job out in Death Valley and it was FREEZING!! Been using it every now and then on quick trips, even the significant other likes it.
