    i just bought a new truck (first new truck)
    its a 2015 black tacoma SR5 V6 4WD

    my last tacoma was a 98 and i drove it for right at 9 years. it was a 4 cyl with stock gears and i had some 35x12.50x15s on it and it was a turd.

    i want to run 35s on my new truck, but i need to make sure i dont need gears first. i said i would gear my last one later on (after putting 35s on and i never did)
    anyone on here running 35s on their 2015s? if so, did yall gear em down or what?

    im looking for advice/opinions/options

    thanks for any help you guys throw at me :D

    90% of the people with 35s are on a DB lift and I am willing to bet they don't have bigger gears. I am running 35s on 4.56s and I can't complain. I don't downshift after every incline and it has plenty of power.

    If it's a 4.0 V6 you have 3.73s

    You do have 86 more hp in your new truck and while you will lose some mpg and power, I'd be willing to bet it'll still be faster on 35s than your 98 was stock.

    Summary: you don't NEED gears, but they wouldn't hurt if you have the cash. I'd run 4.56s.

    appreciate the info guys!
    i guess my best bet would be to lift it, and throw some 35s on it and run it.
    if i decide i need more power then ill throw some gears in it. if not, ill let it ride.

    i guess the only deciding factor now is to pick a lift kit and a set of wheels that wont cause me to tear up my fender wells like i did on my poor 98. :confused:

    anyone run a newer tacoma with 35s? and if so what all did you have to cut/trim?
    on my 98, i had a 3inch body lift and a 3 inch home-made suspension lift and i had offset wheels and i was rubbing pretty bad so i trimmed the bottom corners of my front fender wells and was good to go. i wonder if a 6'' lift will have me clearing a set of 35x12.50s?

    This is if you want to have your 35's be for anything other than crawlin around the mall picking up city chicks:

    * Chop your cab mount(or better yet, relocate it)
    * trim your fenders
    * trim your fender flares
    * Bang on your firewall
    * Chop or remove your fender flares

    See this thread for ALL the details: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/285871-2nd-gen-4x4-35s-3-lift-w-o-body-lift.html

    However! If you want to just crawl around the mall on Friday night, you can do a 3" lift and chop your cab mount, just don't do any sharp turns and make sure you don't jump out of the truck too quickly in your dainty high heels.

    hahahaha im from louisiana man i havent been to a mall since 2012. my tan truck stayed in the mud and my 85 toyota (that ill never get rid of) does too.
    My 2015 will DEFINITELY be falling off in a mud hole before long. but im looking to throw some 35s under it and im guessing a 6'' lift to clear them.

    i am in no way a city boy by any means...anyways im going to check out the link you posted, thanks

    2015 with 6inch bds lift. .35's nitto trail grapplers with fox shocks all around. Had to do the body mount mod which was no big deal and looks great. Trimed the wheel wells a little and have put off trimming the fender flares because I may go to aftermarket flares to keep the mud from flinging all over the paintuploadfromtaptalk1423629227481.jpg

    Have the 6" fabtech on my 08 DCSB, ran stock gears on 35's for a couple years and finally regeared to 4.56.
    Got tired of it downshifting on hills but it turned those 35's no problem.

    Also, I had the Icon UCA's installed which virtually eliminated all the rubbing, no cab chop.

    You'll also want to think about ditching the blocks in the rear and be prepared for any driveshaft vibe issues.

    The kit might include a shim or spacer to lower the carrier bearing.

    another BIG issue is the warranty.
    i just bought the truck brand new 4 days ago and i would REALLY like to NOT void that warranty on it.
    im not too clear on what i can and cant get away with. im not scared to void the warranty, but id rather not if i can help it

    You won't void the warranty by installing a lift

    Actually he will (legitimately) void the warranty on everything that is touched in the process.

    And rest assured they'll try to blame the lift for anything else they can get out of as well.

    OP, not saying not to do what you want. Just expect that you'll have some hassle IF you actually ever had a warranty need.

    That's illegal, you know? Installing a lift will not void a warranty or anything that was 'touched' in the process.

    Read it for yourself.

    http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0138-auto-warranties-routine-maintenance

    I should have said 'replaced' I suppose, instead of touched.

    However, as I said, rest assured the dealer will look for any way they can skate based on any modifications that are done.

    I'm not a warranty nut anyway. I've only owned 4 vehicles (out of 50+) that had any warranty left, and only used one once, on a mid 80s Ford.

    The OP is correct to consider potential warranty impacts if warranty is important to him.

    Of course Toyota won't warrant a part that they didn't make nor install.

    Let me rephrase a little. OP, if you install a lift on your truck, your OEM Toyota parts are covered from defects unless the dealer can 100% prove that the lift you installed damaged a Toyota component, if that is the case you are SOL.

    i hear ya bill
    i wonder if i could get the dealership to install it rather than doing it myself.
    maybe then they would warranty the labor but just not the parts that come with the lift kit.
