No not too too bad, but I would pay $26 for it to be quieter. It's not really loud as much as it is goofy sounding.

Kind of off topic but posted some pictures of what a nice rear mount looks like. Minus a few things that I would change. http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/pe...-sts-turbo-kit-trd-s-c-kit-2.html#post9841593

Rear charging just doesn't work well enough for me though. That and I Offroad and have oversize tires so the charge pipe routing on those setups would never work for me. I'd crush it. Although maybe with the lt Id be okay..

Twin charging would be sweet though. Be awesome to build up the block and heads and run a Trd blower and then a front mount turbo.

    Yea have seen that.

You could twin charge :p although you're fuel setup isn't going to work for it haha probably the motor either.

    Yeah, no :p

Fuel wouldn't be a problem; just need to change primary injectors. Con rods and cast crank shaft would be the problem; it'd be a like six blenders when I start it up...

    The 5vz doesn't have a forged crank?

Honestly not sure. Its been a big debate but I'm pretty sure its cast. The 3.slow has the exact same crank but forged and is a common swap. Even so, the crank is pretty stout and the rods tend to go before the crank.

Typical safe numbers for the 5VZ are 450-500hp absolute tops and not very reliable. 400hp is about max reliable on a good engine (not worn/high milage). 300-350hp is pretty safe. At 10-12psi, I should be pushing 300hp which is my max goal.

He doesn't have a build page I can find but there is a user on Customtaco (SHO NUFF) that ran 14-17psi for 80k miles on all stock internals. I think he was twin charged for some time as well. Here's the best i can find on him: http://www.customtacos.com/forum/65-track/12611-turbo-srunner-1-4-mile.html

I think someone beat me to it but 5vz's crank is forged. The cams are not, but the identical spec 3.0 camry cams are.

Meh if you ran the stock Trd blower pulley and 8psi from the turbo you'd be safe...ish.

Add water/meth injection and I bet you'd be fine if you tuned it right and very well.

Not trying to make a hot rod. Just wanted some power. Did the turbo because it was cheaper and more efficient than the TRD. I knew the install would be a learning curve and I've enjoyed it for the most part but there are times I wished I did the blower instead

Someone tell me again why the URD 7th injector can't (be made to) work for a turbo setup again?!

Short answer: It CAN be, would require some fab skills though.

Long answer: The earlier 5VZ had an EGR system that recirculated exhaust gas back into the engine so the TRD blower was designed with an input port for the EGR system. TRD and URD basically designed an adapter that allowed an injector be mounted into that port.

On the URD site, they also sell a fuel injector upgrade kit for the earlier EGR trucks as the TRD port will be in use recirculating the exhaust gas; 7th injector is not compatible with those trucks unless your ripped out the EGR system.

Sorry I asked lol. I thought it was as simple as fabbing up a hole with screws in the intake pipes and tuning away :D

Nah. Just wait till its done. Be worth it :D

And who said it was cheaper?? Haha no way in hell is it cheaper..lol

    Sorta could..but not really.

Really, water/meth injection is something that the 7th injector is modeled after. Is tricky to tune though but if you get it right it's great. Helps lower intake temps and detonation and adds power as you'd be running about 105-110 octane with the methanol. It only activates when in boost too.

But you do have to add another tank, and have the pump set up and stuff.

Much cheaper. The kit is only $1500, about $1k less then the TRD S/C. I only spent about $3.5k on all of this :notsure:

S/C would have been about that much just for the unit and 7th injector. To get the power I want with the S/C, I would need a pulley, headers, and meth injectors at a minimum. I would have added an exhaust, intake, and a piggy back tuner as well.

I think I had it priced out to $4500 for the TRD and was saving at least $5k before I bought anything. When I found this kit, I realized I could do it better and cheaper

Yes definitely way cheaper. I have much less into it than you too. Probably $1800-$2000 total. Turbo>SC all day

Yeah, I think if I did it your way and just got the headers, I could have saved a lot of money. I had to buy a lot of redundant parts because I didnt like how the kit was designed or the quality of some parts.

Well nice. Didn't think it was for some reason.

I guess when I priced it out I used a better turbo then the cx racing one and that alone screws me over..lol
