My experience with the 3vze was just fine. Not great but far from terrible. I know a lot of people with them and once the head gaskets are done properly they never have any issues.

Head gaskets were #1 issue. The also suffered poor oiling, and burnt valves on #1 from the shitty crossover.

That with the horrid economy and dismal power. Decent torque.

They followed the rules of domestics. Some were better than others, depending on what day it was built.

I have owned one that was a good runner for over 200k after I did the head gasket at 140k.

Most of them did not make it to 200k.

It wasn't a terrible engine, but it was terrible compared to the rest!

    1990 4runner v6 sr5 was the slowest 0-60 for the year :)

So what you saying is engine designed for Land Cruisers. (5Vze) was much better than one designed for whatever floats (3vze)

Hence my point about 3.5 L they want to put into 2016 Tacoma to replace 1gr designed for Land Cruisers.

Not many people wants to repeat that 3.0 L fiasco.

Yes in fact the 5vz-fe is MUCH better than the engine it evolved from 3vz-e.

And nobody sane wants a repeat of that POS.

I hope it is a good engine. But then you could say wish in one hand and shit in the other.... Which one fills first? :)

F150 is just too damn long for me. My neighbor bought one, the access cab version, not even the double cab and it's too long to fit into his garage at something like 230 inches. The F150 isn't crazy wide, it's the length.

Nice motor, though, that Coyote 5.0l is a nice engine. Ford gets a lot of output from five litres.

    One very smart man said.
"Doing the same thing, over and over and expecting different results is a sign on insanity" AE

That pretty much sums up Toyota again putting crappy engine in the Pickup.
Been there done that, not willing to have rusted frame with busted engine.
On the plus size resale value on those new trucks should be so bad that we will have supply of fresh cheap frames for couple years.
First mod for 2016 is going to be how to swap 4runner engine in it. :D

my 2014 f150 reg cab 4x4 with the 5.0L on 33's with a 2inch lift got the same mileage as my reg cab tacoma 4cyl with a 3inch lift and 32's. and the 6 inch longer bed was great for camping in. anyway i wasn't happy with the overall largeness of the truck and got into a jeep jk so i can wheel again.

Impossible to give you a recommendation. Not a single truck compares overall for my needs. Awesome looks and reliability, fits in my garage unlike a full-size truck, never had a problem with all three Toyota trucks ('78 long bed; 2003 DCSB TRD; 2014 DCLB SR5) I've owned and you can beat the utility, reliability, comfort, and resale.
Only one I can compare is my 2005 F-150 Screw with 5.5 bed. (bed was pretty much unusable for camping) Surprisingly it was almost the same exact length as my 2014 Tacoma but so much wider that it was a major garage issue. Owning it after my 2003 Tacoma felt like I was driving a city bus... Otherwise, it was a good truck.

As much as I love the Tacoma I probably wouldn't buy the new one. I would stay clear 9f it due to it being direct injected. Great technology but to many issues. Toyota has actually addressed the issue by adding a port injector to help.

My brother has a '13 or '14 F150 crew/king cab (whatever the 4 full doors is) with the 5.0 and he gets just about the same milage as I do with my xcab 3.4. It's just stupid haha.

That's exactly what's bugging me! :frusty: Bigger truck, more power, better towing ability, and same or better MPG. Like WTF Toyota?

I think you would have to baby a full size truck to make it get the same mpg as a normally driven tacoma

Or floor a lifted tacoma with 35s to reach the same mpg as as normally driven full size

There's about 10 years between those models. Why don't you compare it to a 13 or 14 tacoma?

It's really not that different. Maybe 1 or 2 mpg less with the F150....but you have 2x as much truck.

My 2013 Tacoma only got about 19 mpg before I S/C it. My 2010 Ford F150 got around 16 mpg. That's about 15% difference for a more capable truck if you do a lot of towing and don't off road that much in tight spaces. I can see why people make that comparison.

So an f150 can tow 13k pounds now? AND haul 2600 lbs AND get better MPG?

No, it can't. Yes value per capability you get a little more truck for the dollar with an F150. Definitely not double the truck. And you give up the size, and offroad capability which are worth more to some than the almost comparable MPG.

I understand it isn't that much better but if you do a lot of towing and don't offroad in tight spaces, you probably belong in a full size truck.
But if you do enjoy offroading a lot, riding trails, parking in a garage, and tow only a few times per year, you would probably prefer a Tacoma which uses a little less gas and doesn't cost as much. There's also reliability, aftermarket, and resale but who's counting?

If you need to tow often, get a full size. If I ever outgrow my Tacoma which I hope I don't, I'll be in an F150.

    http://www.autoblog.com/2014/09/29/2015-ford-f150-best-payload-towing-rating/

Max tow rating on the 2015 Ford is 12,200 pounds... That's not far off from 13,000 pounds....

The payload is 3,300 pounds max too.... so that's better than 2600lbs right....

Pretty much seems like close to double the truck for the same money IF you don't need to drive it in tight spaces. The Tacoma will always have better maneuverability and driving characteristics. The same way 1/2 tons drive loads better than 3/4 tons as far as ride comfort and maneuverability.
