Try driving the transmission with a full load up a mountain...it shifts great, timing is good, and it NEVER misses a shift. It is a TRUCK transmission, not a sports car.

Agreed. Been there done that, 6spd wins for towing.

Agreed with you guys. Towing with the 6 speed is great.

If I could change one thing it would be the rev hang, everything else on the truck is either great or something not important enough to care about.

I have a 09 sport double cab w/27K. has anyone noticed that if you load the bed with 300-400lbs that the trans feels smoother and each gear engages softer so to speak not as clunky.

What ever happened with the bully dog programmer that let you change that?

There is also another product that improves the response. Can't remember what it is but it plugs in the pedal or something.

Definitely. Whole truck is smoother. Although the stance of mine with 6 tires and 2 wheels in the bed the other day reminded me of my dog wiping his ass on the grass.

Yup, throw my commercial mower and the rest of my landscaping equipment in the bed and it smooths up as well. my 2.7 5 speed was the same way

While we're bitching about our transmissions I've been meaning to ask, does anyone ever have trouble going into first? Sometimes I have to double clutch it or move the shifter into second then back up into first. I don't know if this is just the transmission or maybe a result of a few crunches in 4lo

Only ever shift mine into 1st at or near a dead stop.

^^ ok slow roll with a trailer

But my wife complains that it is hard to get into first. I think with the 1-2 spread its just normal that unless its near stopped its not very easy to put it in first.

    Otherwise its never bothered me.

Me too but I'm talking sometimes at full stop. Like I'll be sitting at a light with it in neutral then when the light turns I try to put it in first and it just won't go.

Had that for thr first time this morning when I started it up. Although most manuals I've driven have trouble getting into either first or reverse from time to time. Cure always seems to be the same, third then back to first.

Well if a brand new pro has then I'm less worried hahaha. Why have you not popped into the NW thread yet??

Oh, ok. Yes that has happened before, never really considered it as a problem I think its normal.

Just about ever vehicle I have owned does it from time to time. Usually more often when cold.

If it doesn't grind and is only occasional no worries. And same as above, cure for me has been in and out of the next gear.

    I was thinking while driving..

I looked into the one I think your talking about. I don't remember the name of it now either. But it was supposed to take out all the lag for acceleration. Gave you something like three different setups. You put it in line between your accelerator and the factory wiring harness I think.

I even emailed the customer support people for the product asking if it took out the throttle hang, as they only talk up reducing lag on the way up. Never got a response (you'd think I should remember the name of that thing).

I do the same thing. If rolling at all I usually just use 2, only use 1 if at a complete stop and not facing downhill, or if pulling something.

Also I switched to Redline gear oil for all the running gear. It seemed to smooth things out a little bit more.

The synchro notches seem to be thicker in the taco trans giving it slightly more chance at not lining up and letting you slip it into gear. You can spin them up by holding the brake with the trans in neutral; then let the clutch out and back in. That'll spin the trans and most likely align the synchros and let you click into gear at a stop. You don't have to go all the way out and back in either.

My Audi manual did it rarely; the taco does it too sometimes but I barely notice it; but I don't usually sit in neutral at lights.

I've read on here that putting synthetic trans fluid in helps a ton with how the trans feels. I'm at 25k and at the 30k change I'll put in full synthetic to see.

Just put in Redline MT-90 and get the URD short throw shifter kit. Easiest and cheapest way to get the shifting as good as it's going to get.
