Is this a safety concern? Right rear tire rotates with E-Brake set

So I rotated my tires this evening. Jacked the rear, put the axle in jack stands to get the rear tires off the ground. Had the truck in 4Low, rear locker locked, truck in Park and emergency brake engaged.

The left hub was rock solid when torquing on the lug nuts.

The right hub rotated maybe a 1/4 of a degree and it sounded as if it was a spring rubbing in the drum. All 6 nuts are correctly installed and at 85ft#s.
I think its the drum moving. There is no top or bottom lateral movement, just a slight rotation when torquing while the tire is off the ground.

At 5,000 miles, a lug bolt sheard off and the drum was removed by my dealer and a the broken stud removed and a new one pressed in its place.

Again, the E-Brake was full pressed, truck in park, rear locker locked.

    Any ideas?

    Should I be concerned?

You should snug the nuts then put the truck on the ground to torque.
1/4 of a degree seems like nothing but you can pop the drum off to make sure nothing shifted inside.

I did tighten with the tire back on the ground.

I've never taken off the rear drum. I'll search for a how-to. Any suggestions on what to look for that could be allowing rotation when the axle and brake drum should be rock solid?

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
I think if you reverse the truck and hit the brakes that may tighten the parking brake but I could be wrong. [IMG]

    Jack up truck.

    Remove wheel.

    Remove hub.

    Check brake linkages and components.

    Contradiction?
So the wheels were on the ground when you were torquing the lug nuts? What turned?

When on the ground nothing rotated. When the right rear tire is elevated off the ground, it has rotational play occurring inside the brake drum. As a similar movement example I would describe it as how the wheel moves when it is seated on the centering ring and you rotate it to center the studs to put on the nuts.

But is it supposed to do that when the E-Brake is set?

    Stock for now...
You need to pull that wheel off and check those brake components asap - make sure the holes in the drum are ovaled out , backing plate bolts are tight and no hardware is missing or broken . Almost sounds like more than brakes being out of adjustment , possibly some broken pins or a shoe that is coming un-bonded . The adjusters on these rear brakes don't work that well , if you want your brakes to work correctly , including the abs , they need to be adjusted occasionally .

    Are you still under warranty?

Take it to the dealer and let them mess with it.

Even with a properly adjusted e-brake cable, one wheel will move while the other is rock solid. It's almost impossible to lock up both back wheels with the e-brake.

No such thing as e-brakes on cars manufactured these days. The lawyers have caused them to call them Parking Brakes. Just sayin'
