Do map lights turn off automatically if left on?

I have a 2005 Tacoma double cab. Yesterday when I went in the garage to leave for work I realized one of the map lights was left on all night. Truck started fine. I thought most newer vehicles have an auto shut off to prevent draining the battery?

My 2014 does not turn off automatically, left mine on all night once. With the self installed LED's its a non issue for me.

I thought maybe my truck was supposed to turn off the lights after a certain amount of time but wasn't functioning properly. My 2004 Dodge Dakota would turn off any of the lights, even the headlights, if left on for 15 minutes. I hated my Dodge, think that was the only thing I liked about it.

 

Your headlights will turn off automagically if you leave them on. I never turn mine off.

Map lights, ... not so much.

 

I've also left mine on all night. Truck still started fine

 

If you leave your headlights on all the time, don't get in on the passenger side, turn the key on to set the clock or whatever and then just turn the key off and get out. The lights will stay on until the drivers side door is opened.

 

If you leave the map lights on long enough, yes they will turn off automatically... after several days when they drain your battery down completely.

This is called the "I forgot to turn my map lights off, so I have a dead battery" mod. I don't recommend it.
